NBA Draft 2012: Big Men Who Will Be Overvalued
NBA teams are always on the lookout for potential star post players. The 2012 NBA draft boasts a fine crop of big men.
But there are some big men who are vastly overrated based on their probable draft position, and others who have far too many concerns to be selected early on in the draft.
Here's a look at some post players who likely won't live up to their lofty expectations.
John Henson, PF, North Carolina
I actually like John Henson for what he does. He's a shot-blocker who has the athleticism to match up well in the NBA. But, given his raw offensive game, he doesn't belong in the lottery.
The ideal lottery pick isn't one-dimensional; he brings a vast array of skills to the court. Henson is a complementary player, and it's not like the Detroit Pistons would make a bad move pairing him with offensive-minded center Greg Monroe, but that doesn't mean he belongs in the lottery in a strong draft class.
Tyler Zeller, C, North Carolina
Tyler Zeller should be a good center in the NBA. He has good size, soft touch around the rim and can rebound well. But few peg him as a potential star, and that's what you're generally looking for in the lottery, especially in an impressive draft class. Zeller will likely land in the lottery, but he won't live up to his lofty draft position.
Perry Jones III, F, Baylor
Perry Jones III will likely be selected out of the lottery, but before No. 20 overall. Given his sheer explosiveness and athleticism, he could be a steal. But there are so many questions about Jones.
He played inconsistent ball at Baylor and many are questioning his drive. On top of that, it's hard to find a clear-cut position for him. He has the body and explosiveness to play at power forward. Then again, he was spotty on the post at Baylor. He has the quickness to play small forward, but lacks the perimeter game.
Jones could very well be a bust in the NBA. He's too risky to use a top-20 pick on in my opinion.
