NBA Draft 2012: Which NBA Draft Invitees Will Fall out of the Lottery?

Ehran KhanJun 7, 2018

The 2012 NBA draft is projected to be as wild and unpredictable a draft as we've seen in some time.

Though there are no surefire stars after Anthony Davis, the 2012 draft class promises to be deep with high-impact contributors. The talent will be spread over the entire first round and into the second.

On Monday, Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress announced the invitees to the draft's Green Room via Twitter.

With such turmoil throughout the first round and ongoing debates raging in team war rooms, it's a distinct possibility that several of the 13 lucky invitees may indeed slip past the lottery.

Here's a look at who may fall Jared Sullinger-style come draft night.

Austin Rivers

1 of 4

Projections have been all over the map as to where Austin Rivers will be drafted on Thursday.

After being one of the most hyped prospects to enter college last season, Rivers' game was picked at as the year went on, downgrading him from a top five selection to out of the lottery.

Rivers is back at No. 10  to New Orleans in Chad Ford's latest Mock Draft, but the range of outcomes for Rivers is still large.

In the end, teams may hold off on drafting Rivers if they don't see him as anything more than a bench scorer in the mold of a Jason Terry or Jamal Crawford.

Tyler Zeller

2 of 4

It feels like Zeller is sort of an afterthought in this draft.

The consensus about Zeller is that he will be a solid but unspectacular pro who can help a team out despite never becoming an All-Star caliber force.

Thus, Zeller may go anywhere between No. 8 and No. 18 (he currently sits at No. 11 in Ford's latest mock draft), depending on when teams feel that the risk on a potential upside guy is too great to pass on Zeller's safe, presumably solid production.

Meyers Leonard

3 of 4

Though Leonard has shot up draft boards recently (currently at No.12 in Ford's latest mock), he is still considered to be a bit of a project.

Teams will be tempted by his size and athleticism, but may not pull the trigger if they don't want to wait several years to see the finished product.

Who knows? Maybe even the promise of instant production from the lately-blacklisted Jared Sullinger will trump Leonard's raw abilities when organizations are faced with a decision.

Jeremy Lamb

4 of 4

After an impressive freshman season during which he helped UConn to a national championship, Jeremy Lamb failed to raise his draft stock a whole lot this season.

Now Lamb is one of a handful of wing players who can go anywhere from the middle of the lottery to the end of the first round. As of this writing, Chad Ford has Lamb going to Phoenix at No. 13, just inside the lottery.

However, teams will be similarly tempted at the end of the lottery by other high upside talents like Terrence Jones, Terrence Ross and Perry Jones. It will only take a couple of picks here and there for Lamb to begin sliding.
