LeBron James on the Verge of NBA Title; Is the World Ready?

Matt ShetlerJun 7, 2018

It was often said that the world would end in 2012, and sign No. 1 that the apocalypse is upon us is the fact that LeBron James and the Miami Heat are one win away from capturing the second championship in Miami history.

All joking aside, is the world ready for LeBron to win a title?

For James, it will be his first title in a journey that has taken "The King" nine seasons.

However, he's not only one win away from a ring. He's dominated and proven that he's a clutch player.

What are NBA fans to do now? Who will NBA fans have to criticize or direct their anger towards next season?

It can't be LeBron.

He's one win away from silencing his critics and proving the doubters wrong. LBJ has been everyone's whipping boy for so long—it will have to stop after the next Miami Heat victory.

But I don't think the world is ready to give King James his due.

Without James to target, basketball may not be the same for the casual NBA fan ever again.

As the casual knows it, basketball will change forever.

So what happens next? Does the anger and criticism shift to a superstar that hasn't won a title?

Who becomes the next whipping boy for NBA fans?

Carmelo Anthony is a possibility, but the smart money is on Dwight Howard.

The way Howard handled his trade demands in Orlando for the last year has angered the majority of the fans around the league, and his popularity has taken a major hit, similar to the way in which James' did when he left Cleveland.

No one knows what will happen when LeBron gets his ring.

What's certain is that NBA fans will lose their whipping boy, and the world isn't ready for that.
