Bradley Beal: Why Top NBA Prospect Will Succeed in Rookie Campaign

Joseph BisacciaJun 7, 2018

The NBA Draft is almost as much of a crapshoot as the MLB Draft today. Lots of young men decide after one year of college that they will forego the rest of their education to live their dream. The notion seems like a good one, but many of these players come into the league unprepared for the rigors of being a professional. They often flame out as their careers never live up to the hype.

Bradley Beal is not of those guys. He played his freshman year at Florida and was a standout. He is projected by NBA Draft Prospect as the fourth best prospect in this year's draft.

Bradley has the prototypical body for a two-guard in the NBA. He comes in at 6'5" and weighs just over 200 pounds. He's also only 18, so he still has a really high ceiling. His size could be a concern guarding bigger players of defense, but he's definitely strong enough to match up with elite talent. In addition, he is only six percent body fat. The young man is a physical specimen and will likely only get bigger and stronger.

Beal's three-pointer is also better than perceived by most. He only shot the ball at 33.9 percent from beyond the arc, but he has a really nice shot. His quick release will likely translate over to the NBA very well, even with the longer three-point shot. There will be a bit of a transition for him, but I still think he will be fine. His shot is very smooth.

Beal will likely need a few years to reach his full potential, but he is a smooth scorer. He is still growing into his body, and I suspect he will put on some more muscle over the next few years. Even at 200 pounds, there is always room to pack on some muscle.

I believe Beal will succeed quite a bit during his rookie campaign. He will need to do a lot of adjusting to the NBA game, but he will be just fine. His defense and three-point shooting will be an area of concern, but he just knows how to score the basketball.

I project that Beal will find a way to score about 10-12 points per game as a rookie. Those numbers should make his new team quite pleased considering they will be from a rookie who will be 19 years old when the season starts.
