NBA Draft 2012: Best-Case Scenarios for Top Playoff Teams
All the focus is on the lottery teams in the NBA Draft, but this draft will also be important for some of the top playoff teams in the league.
The Miami Heat, Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls will all be looking to add players with the ability to contribute to their team immediately and fill any holes each respective team might have at the end of this season.
Let's take a look at the best-case scenario for each team in the NBA draft.
Miami Heat: Festus Ezeli, C (Vanderbilt)
The Heat need a big man down low to help anchor their defense and make it difficult for opposing teams to get into the paint.
Ezeli could be the kind of defensive player that gives Miami what they need. With the potential to be a solid shot-blocker at the next level, Ezeli could be the answer in the middle for the long term.
Hopefully, for Miami's sake, the Vandy center won't be a Joel Anthony clone and Ezeli can actually make a major impact.
Boston Celtics: Quincy Miller, SF (Baylor) and Fab Melo, C (Syracuse)
The Celtics are blessed with two first-round picks this year and will need to use both if they hope to add some youth to their team. General manager Danny Ainge might end up blowing up this roster in some way, so Boston will look to fill whatever void such an action might leave.
Miller would be a great help off the bench for Boston. He can give them an athletic player with a huge wingspan and the ability to help on both sides of the ball. Adding overall depth to the roster will be vital and Miller gives them exactly what they need.
Melo will give the Celtics a presence down low which, despite having Kevin Garnett this season, they still needed anyway. Melo will be vital to this franchise if KG does move on to another team during the summer.
Chicago Bulls: Marquis Teague, PG (Kentucky)
If Chicago learned anything last season, it's that you can never be too deep at point guard. Derrick Rose's injury-plagued season proved that as the Bulls were unable to overcome an injury to their star player during the playoffs.
Teague is a winner already coming off a national championship with Kentucky and could be an instant contributor to this team off the bench. Not to mention, he could have an opportunity to play right away with Rose set to miss the start of the season.
The Bulls would love to give themselves some help at the point early next season and some insurance as the season grows older. Teague will give them the floor general they so desperately need.
