Jared Sullinger: Assessing Best Fits for Ohio State Star to Begin NBA Career
Jared Sullinger is worthy of a top-five pick in the 2012 NBA draft.
That being said, he is a complete player that an score, draw fouls, rebound on both ends, make free throws, and play lock down defense.
As for where he could end up, the New Orleans Hornets are one team that sorely needs his help. As a defense-oriented squad, Sullinger's offense will counter-balance that and make them a complete team.
Before we dig more into the Big Easy though, let's see where else is a great fit for Sullinger to tip off his career.
Portland Trail Blazers
It's reasonable for Portland fans to be skeptical of drafting another player from Ohio State, but Jared Sullinger has much more promise than Greg Oden.
For one, the Trail Blazers need to improve on rebounds, both on offense and defense. Sullinger brings the skill set to score down-low, put up the occasional J, and grab boards at both ends. If anything, Sullinger provides talent and depth to the frontcourt because the Blazers need a more reliable rotation to help LaMarcus Aldridge and J.J. Hickson.
Sullinger also possesses the overall size and physical toughness to contribute at center and take over games in the paint. With an improving backcourt, Sullinger's athleticism bodes well to get in favorable position for scoring/defending.
Sacramento Kings
Sullinger is a great fit for Sacramento and he'll make a direct impact on both ends for the Kings.
Last season Sacramento ranked No. 30 in points allowed, so Sullinger's physical capabilities alone will improve the defense. Pairing him with DeMarcus Cousins in the paint creates a dominant duo to match up against more physical teams and will also keep the offense explosive.
Averaging almost 99 points per game last year, Sullinger can win one-on-one situations or draw double-teams to kick it back outside. In a division run by offense on teams like Phoenix, Golden State and the L.A. teams, Sullinger's rebounding and ability to steal gives Sacramento a distinct advantage.
New Orleans Hornets
The great thing about Jared Sullinger is that he's a complete player.
His defensive skill set undoubtedly would pay dividends for Sacramento and his offensive game will significantly help New Orleans. The Hornets ranked No. 29 in averaging just under 90 points per game while also ranking No. 24 in rebounds.
At Ohio State, Sullinger averaged over 17 points per game for two years and possesses the athletic foot work to make plays with the ball. Sullinger's size can fend off anyone who contends a shot and his quickness allows him to get in position off transition.
Sullinger is also an excellent free throw shooter and, if fed the rock enough, he'll rack up points for New Orleans at the line all season.
