French Open 2012 Schedule: Day 3 TV Schedule, Matches and Bracket Guide

Eric BallJun 6, 2018

The French Open has only featured one major upset thus far (sorry Andy Roddick), but that can be expected in the first two days.

As we head to Day 3, anticipate more of the same as the rest of the first round wraps up.

There are multiple big names that will step onto the clay courts at Rolland Garros for the first time this year, and will be playing upstarts looking to make a name for themselves.

Notable Matches

Men’s

No. 4 Andy Murray vs. Tatsuma Ito

Murray is without a doubt the fourth best mens tennis player right now…but when will he change that? When will he be able to finally win a Grand Slam?

He reached the semi-finals of the French Open last year, and has recorded one victory thus far in 2012.

If there were ever a player outside of the big three to win the title, it would be Murray. Expect him to breeze against an over-matched Ito.

No. 6 David Ferrer vs. Lukas Lacko

Ferrer has a win over Rafael Nadal under his belt in 2012, but nothing else has really stood out about the Spaniard recently.

Another top 10 player that is seeking his first ever Grand Slam, Ferrer’s best finish at Rolland Garros is an appearance in the quarterfinals, a feat he has accomplished twice (2005, 2008).

With the 30-year-old beginning to lose his foot speed, now is the time for Ferrer to make one last push for the big win on clay.

Women’s

No. 2 Maria Sharapova vs. Alexandria Cadantu

Quite possibly the hottest player entering the tournament on the women’s side, Sharapova will begin her quest for her first French Open title after winning the Italian Open earlier this month.

This should be a two-set easy victory for Sharapova, in what looks to be a very deep run. She is my favorite to win the title at this point.

Serena has admitted to being inspired by the comeback of her sister Venus, and will kick off the 2012 French Open looking for her first Grand Slam win since Wimbledon back in 2010.

She shouldn’t have any trouble against Razzano, the 93rd ranked player in the world that enters Rolland Garros looking to get past the fourth round for the first time in her career.

Aside from Roddick’s stunning loss, all of the top matchups are still in play. Here are a few that all tennis fans should root to see.

Semifinals- No. 1 Novak Djokovic vs. No. 4 Andy Murray

Djokovic has shown us he isn’t the same player that went on a run for the ages in 2011, but is still the favorite at Roland Garros for good reason.

Murray, desperate to win his first Grand Slam, will give Djokovic the fight of his life.

Will he survive?

Quarterfinals - No. 2 Rafael Nadal vs. No. 6 David Ferrer

This would be a great matchup between two of the premiere clay court players.

The two Spaniards are extremely familiar with each other and Ferrer as already proven to be capable of beating Rafa in the past.

This match would really test the King of Clay.

Fourth Round – No. 5 Serena Williams vs. No. 9 Caroline Wozniacki

Serena may be 4-1 all-time against Wozniacki, but there is no question Caroline is the fastest rising star in tennis.

This is a changing of the guards sort of match if Serna loses.

With the bad-blood between the two after Wozniacki mimicked Serena, this match should provide fans with plenty of drama.
