MLB Prospects: 5 Red-Hot Pitchers at Every Minor League Level

Mike RosenbaumJun 4, 2018

As most teams are now roughly 40 games into the minor league baseball season, there are tons of notable pitchers who continue to dominate across the various levels.

While some teams are merely waiting for the right time to call up their big league-ready prospect from either Double- or Triple-A, others—particularly those players tearing up the low minors—are nearing a promotion to a more advanced level.

To begin the week, here is a look at the minor league pitchers who continue to dominate at Triple-A, Double-A, Class-A Advanced and Low Class-A.

Triple-A

1 of 4

Julio Teheran, RHP, Atlanta Braves

3-2, 35.1 IP, 3.31 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 29 K/17 BB (8 GS)

Still patiently awaiting his chance for his return to the big leagues.

Matt Harvey, RHP, New York Mets

4-1, 48 IP, 4.31 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 49 K/21 BB (9 GS)

Struck out 11 over six innings in most recent outing.

Shelby Miller, RHP, St. Louis Cardinals,

4-2, 40.1 IP, 3.79 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, 48 K/18 BB (8 GS)

Has pitched better as of late, but no need for him just yet.

Trevor Bauer, RHP, Arizona Diamondbacks

7-1, 48.1 IP, 1.68 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 60 K/26 BB (8 GS)

Struck out 11 and walked only one in his first Triple-A outing; he’s getting close.

A.J. Griffin, Oakland Athletics

3-2, 54.1 IP, 3.48 ERA, .226 BAA, 54 K/10 BB (9 GS)

Has struggled a bit in his first two starts since being promoted to Triple-A.

Double-A

2 of 4

Danny Rosenbaum

5-0, 57.2 IP, 2 CG, 0.62 ERA, 0.73 WHIP, 37 K/6 BB (8 GS)

Continues to blank opposing hitters. Nationals should keep moving him through the system.

Danny Hultzen, Seattle Mariners

4-3, 44.2 IP, 1.81 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 44 K/24 BB (8 GS)

Has lasted seven innings in each of his last two starts.

Taijuan Walker, Seattle Mariners

3-1, 34.1 IP, 1.83 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 35 K/11 BB (7 GS)

Proving he was more than ready for the aggressive promotion to Double-A.

Donnie Joseph, LHP, Cincinnati Reds

4-0, 9 SV, 22 IP, 0.40 ERA, 0.58 WHIP, 32 K/5 BB (19 G)

Could reach the majors by the end of the season.

Tyler Thornburg, RHP, Milwaukee Brewers

5-0, 53 IP, 2.21 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 54 K/18 BB (9 GS)

He’s nearing a jump ahead of Wily Peralta on the organizational depth chart.

High-A

3 of 4

Tony Cingrani, LHP, Cincinnati Reds

4-1, 46 IP, 0.78 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, 65 K/10 BB (8 GS)

Left-hander has been one of the most impressive and dominant pitchers in all of the minors.

Matt Barnes, RHP, Boston Red Sox

4-0, 44.2 IP, 0.60 ERA, 2.10 GB/FB, 67 K/6 BB (8 GS)

Best pitcher other than Dylan Bundy so far in the minors. Dominating  at High-A just as he did at Low-A.

Donn Roach, RHP, San Diego Padres

7-0, 58.2 IP, 1.69 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 5.14 GB/FB, 47 K/7 BB (9 GS)

Unaffected by trade, Roach continues to induce ground balls at an obscene rate.

Cody Buckel, RHP, Texas Rangers

3-1, 47.1 IP, 1.14 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, 59 K/17 BB (8 GS)

Slight increase in velocity combined with great command has led to even better results than breakout 2011 season.

Jameson Taillon, RHP, Pittsburgh Pirates

2-3, 42.1 IP, 2.55 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 40 K/9 BB (8 GS)

Leash has finally been loosened; results are better than expected.
