NBA Playoffs 2012: Lakers Must Win Game 2 to Stay in Series
Going into the second game of their Western Conference semifinal series, the Los Angeles Lakers are in a must-win situation after being outclassed by the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1.
In the first game of the series, the Thunder pounded the Lakers en route to a 119-90 victory. This was a game dominated by the one-two punch of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.
Kevin Durant poured on 25 points in addition to the 27 points by Russell Westbrook. The Lakers defense did not show up for this game, which led to the absolute manhandling.
This cannot be the case for Game 2 or the Lakers will fall into a hole they will not be able to climb out of.
The Lakers' bench was very quiet, in contrast to the Thunder's bench, which saw James Harden go off for 17 points. In fact, the Thunder's bench outscored the Lakers' bench 50-26. This needs to change come Game 2.
Also, the Lakers need to take care of the ball better. They had 15 turnovers to the Thunder's four. This could explain why the Thunder were so dominant in Game 1.
Although the Lakers got good production out of Kobe Bryant and Andrew Bynum, they need support to win these games. They put in 40 of the team's 90 points. Guys like Ramon Sessions, Pau Gasol and Metta World Peace need to contribute further, or else the Thunder will continue to dominate.
If the Lakers are to stay in this series with the Thunder, it starts with Game 2. They need to get a win before heading back to Los Angeles or they will be in deep trouble.
