NBA Draft 2012: Players Who Stand to Gain from Draft Workouts
While pre-draft workouts aren't as important in the NBA as they are in the NFL, they still have the potential to boost prospects up draft boards.
As we eye the upcoming 2012 NBA draft, these workouts (scheduled for May 19-20) will favor the conditioned athletes while also giving teams a more focused look on their skills. Complete with personal interviews, workouts will give scouts a better idea of prospects' make-up.
Here are three prospects I see gaining from the upcoming workouts.
3. Kyle O'Quinn, C, Norfolk State
Kyle O'Quinn has done all he can to boost his draft stock, and it would be a shock if he isn't drafted. He averaged 15.9 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.6 blocks as a senior at Norfolk State and showed up big-time for the Spartans when they upset Missouri in the NCAA tournament. He was also named the MVP of the Portsmouth Invitational this year. He has good size, at 6'10", 240 pounds, and his strength and athleticism should be at full display in the workouts.
2. Jae Crowder, SF, Marquette
I'm personally a bit confused why Jae Crowder isn't higher up on most draft boards. He averaged 17.5 points and 8.4 rebounds as a senior at Marquette and played huge for the Golden Eagles in the NCAA tournament. His excellent motor and tough, physical style of play should impress in the workouts.
1. Evan Fournier, SG, France
While most American prospects have been scouted thoroughly by now, foreign prospects are always rather unknown. Evan Fournier still needs to add strength and he doesn't have great quickness, so he's not going to impress in that regard, but just being given the opportunity to show his skills should boost his stock. He produced as a 19-year-old in the French League, and he's a smooth scorer who can penetrate and knock down the midrange jumper with regularity. He shot 55 percent in 30 minutes per game for Poitiers this past season in France.
