Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: Why Money Should Retire If Pac-Man Keeps Ducking Bout

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

If Floyd Mayweather cannot arrange a post-prison boxing match with Manny Pacquiao, he needs to retire.

There's literally nothing left for Money to accomplish in the sport, barring a mega fight against the only person even close to considered his equal.

At the age of 35 with a record of 43-0-0, Floyd has nothing more to prove and his dismantling of Miguel Cotto—easily one of, if not the toughest opponent he has ever faced—is the best way for a true legend to exit the sport on top.

According to Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times, Money said he is “80-20” in favor of doing exactly that.

"

"If it was my last fight, I gave them a bang. There's really no one for me to fight anymore… I don't have to fight if I don't want to.” Mayweather said. "They say to save the best for last, and if this was my last fight, it was a hell of a fight.”

"

Obviously, there's one person left to fight and forever silence doubters and critics – but it doesn’t seem likely to happen.

On a possible Pacquiao fight, Mayweather said, "It's not going to happen.” He added via a report by Sports Illustrated, “It's not my fault."

Money is claiming that Bob Arum—his former promoter and currently in Pacquiao’s camp—is the reason there will be no super fight.

However, holdups over how the money will be split and drug testing are also thought to be major factors blocking any potential bout between the two elite brawlers.

Regardless, Mayweather is only going to start fading into the twilight of his career and becoming a worse boxer as he increases in age.

It’s time to get out on top and undefeated if a Pacquiao matchup doesn't start to shape up soon.
