Mayweather vs. Cotto Results: Rematch Between Money and Junito Is Inevitable
In a perfect world, Floyd Mayweather Jr. would fight Manny Pacquiao, young stud Saul Alvarez would face Miguel Cotto and a compelling heavyweight would emerge and wrestle away control of the division from the Klitschko brothers.
But this world is far from perfect.
Mayweather's refusal of a 50-50 revenue split with Pacquiao remains the largest stumbling block to the two ever fighting, and I can't see him changing his stance on the matter. That makes a fourth bout with Juan Manuel Marquez a distinct possibility for Pacquiao.

Alvarez isn't ready for a fighter of Mayweather's stature just yet, but he would be an interesting choice to face Cotto. From Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times:
"Alvarez's promoter, Richard Schaefer, made it clear the front-runner for Alvarez's next fight is James Kirkland, a hard-punching Texan. Schaefer said Alvarez will headline a pay-per-view bout Sept. 15 at MGM Grand. Kirkland is recovering from a right shoulder injury, and if the healing is slow, Cotto is an obvious choice, Schaefer said.
"
Of course, if Mayweather wants to schedule a rematch with Cotto, a fight with Alvarez may not interest Junito all that much.
And honestly, who else is Mayweather going to fight?
Sergio Martinez would love a chance at Mayweather, but that doesn't seem like the sort of big splash Mayweather wants at this point in his career.
Amir Khan?
Meh.
Victor Ortiz?
Been there, done that.
Andre Berto?
Booooooriiiiiing.
Nope, if it isn't Pacquiao then a rematch with Cotto is the most likely scenario. Cotto fought valiantly enough that each camp could sell another bout between the two. It may not be what we want as boxing fans, but more and more I'm convinced it's what we'll get.
Just further proof that the world is not perfect.
