Floyd Mayweather: Breaking Down Possible Opponents for Money's Next Fight

Tim KeeneyJun 3, 2018

Floyd Mayweather secured yet another title belt last night when he beat Miguel Cotto via unanimous decision, so where does he go from here?

This was arguably Mayweather's closest fight of his career, which is only going to make people more eager for the undefeated fighter to enter the ring again.

Obviously, everyone wants a May-Pac fight between Money and Manny Pacquiao, but that's only one of the least likely intriguing options. Let's take a look at who stands in the way of Money May and perfection.

Manny Pacquiao

Everyone wants to see this fight happen, but unfortunately for "everyone," it's just not going to happen.

You know, unless Mayweather agrees on fighting Pacquiao despite Pac-Man only taking a blood and urine test a few months before the fight. And Mayweather somehow starts dealing with Bob Arum, whom he hates. And if Mayweather decides that he doesn't need a 51-49 split of the money.

So, yeah, if all that stuff happens in the next four to six months or so, then we'll get the mega-fight we all want.

Good luck. I'm not holding out hope.

Timothy Bradley

Bradley goes up against Pacquiao on June 9, and the result of that fight could very well determine if he goes on to face Mayweather.

But you could imagine the hype on this fight if Desert Storm somehow upsets Pac-Man?

It would be the 43-0 Mayweather against the 29-0 Bradley, who would be coming off a win over arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

If this fight, under these circumstances, actually happened, May-Tim would be just as popular.

And it would reel in a ton of money for each fighter. This is a likely possibility.

Saul Alvarez

The 21-year-old Alvarez certainly hasn't faced anyone who compares to Mayweather, but his fight Saturday night against Sugar Shane Mosley was incredibly impressive.

Saul came out with a vengeance and landed a ridiculous amount of punches. He wasn't able to knockout Mosley, but he gave him a beating.

At the very least, Alvarez, a young, strong, hungry kid, would put on a good show against Mayweather's all-world defense. He's at the same weight class that Mayweather is currently at, so it's certainly a possibility.
