Eli Manning SNL: Eli Proves Anything Peyton Can Do, He Can Do Better

Donald WoodMay 6, 2012

With defending Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning hosting Saturday Night May 5, the talk has shifted to which of the Manning brothers is now the bigger star.

Peyton gets more air time than Eli, but the two Super Bowl wins prove that he is just as talented as his brother; he just isn’t as vocal or dominant in the regular season.

Eli likes to save his dominance until it counts.

Saturday Night Live

While most people remember seeing Peyton Manning in many commercials over the years, it was his performance on SNL that made him a real mainstream star. The same may have happened for Eli on Saturday.

As good as Peyton’s performance was, fans expected nothing out of what was viewed as a bland Eli Manning. Boy, were the fans wrong. From sketches with Cheech and Chong to a Little Brothers’ foundation, Eli was a star during his chance to host the iconic New York show.

Peyton had the funnier overall episode, but the lack of expectation from the current SNL cast and boring Eli made this episode look far better than it actually was. With that said, the hometown QB killed it and is now a bigger star than ever.

Super Bowls

For all the praise Peyton gets, he has won only one Super Bowl over the course of his career, while his younger and healthier brother has already won two.

As methodical as the eldest Manning is on the field and in the film room, it was the youngest brother who took home a Super Bowl MVP that he truly deserved. Peyton’s MVP almost felt like a gift, while Eli’s was well earned.

While there is no doubt that Peyton is the more influential and decorated regular season QB of the brothers, we measure winners by the rings they wear in the NFL. That means Eli is the better brother in that category.

The Market to Be a Star

While Indianapolis and Denver are great, combined, they still pale in comparison to the mega media power of New York City. If Eli Manning wanted to be the bigger star, there is no question he could be.

The reason the Giants love him and most people give the star the benefit of the doubt is because he doesn’t want to be a celebrity. You never see Eli out and about, and he hardly ever does events for anything but charity.

While the football and SNL advantage prove that Eli could be a much bigger star than his older brother, they also prove that he is smart enough to avoid all the drama. New York and their two Super Bowls don’t mind.
