Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto: Why Fight Will End in Knockout
Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto are going to come at each other with reckless abandon, and whoever wins is going to end it with a knockout.
That alone makes this a fight you can't miss, regardless of the undefeated streak or title that are both on the line.
Let's break it down.
If Mayweather wins
Money has a high knockout rate, as 26 of his 42 wins have come via the KO variety. However, only two of his last seven wins have been knockouts and the only fight at this weight class was a split decision against Oscar De La Hoya.
Nonetheless, and despite the fact he can just rely on being the best defensive fighter ever, this fight sets up perfectly for a knockout.
Both because Money is so perfect as a defensive fighter and because he is naturally smaller and lighter, Cotto will have to come after him with aggression if he wants to win.
Unfortunately for Junito, that means he is going to be left defenseless against Mayweather's daunting hand speed.
And leaving yourself open against Mayweather's hand speed means getting knocked the heck out.
There is, of course, always the chance that Money May sits back and picks Cotto apart because he's capable of doing that, too, if he wants.
However, don't be surprised if Mayweather, in his last fight before a jail stint, comes out and looks to put on a show. If he wants to—and he'll want to in this one—he'll score a knockout.
If Cotto wins
I mentioned early why Cotto will have to be aggressive one. If that doesn't convince you, and the fact he has 30 knockouts in 37 wins doesn't convince you, let this quote, via ESPN, convince you.
""I'm a quiet guy, and I prefer to talk in the ring," Cotto said. "No matter what, I am going to use what I have to fight Floyd. I'm prepared for his style. I am going to be the first guy to beat Mayweather."
"
Yeah, Cotto, who is a brave, aggressive fighter, is going to absolutely come after Mayweather with a reckless abandon.
That means he's either scoring a knockout or getting knocked out.
