Mayweather vs. Cotto: Last Minute Predictions for Superfight

Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto is almost upon us and everyone is making his last minute predictions for the fight.

Mayweather puts his undefeated record up against Cotto's WBA Light Middleweight championship.

Cotto is the underdog but has had a quality career and has earned the respect of boxing fans. Mayweather is the obvious favorite, but has a lot hanging over him for this fight, including a 90-day jail sentence and the pressure of Manny Pacquiao.

So what is going to happen in this fight?

Here are my predictions for how this fight will transpire and what will happen as a result of it.

Slow Start

Mayweather likes to be a defensive boxer and he lets his opponents be the aggressor. Cotto has a disadvantage in speed and will be hesitant to push the pace early on. He will get caught by Mayweather's quickness. 

The first few rounds will consist of neither fighter trying to press the other one too much and just waiting for the other person to make a mistake.

Cotto Will Rock Mayweather

Around the sixth or seventh round, Cotto will begin to push the pace and try and work Mayweather's body. After a few rounds, Mayweather's foot speed will be a little slower and Cotto will try and use his strength to his advantage. 

Cotto is going to work the body and make Mayweather feel uncomfortable. Then Cotto will connect with a few big shots to the head and rattle Mayweather. I predict Mayweather getting knocked down.

Unfortunately for Cotto, Mayweather will last through the round and regain his composure.

Cotto Makes a Mistake

After knocking down Mayweather in the sixth or seventh round, Cotto will smell blood and go away from his game plan. Cotto is going to punch himself out in the round following the knock down and open the door for Mayweather.

Mayweather is going to start to take control of the fight. He is going to use his speed and punish Cotto. This is going to be the turning point in the fight.

Mayweather Begins to Dominate

Mayweather is clearly the better pure boxer. Because of that, Mayweather will begin to control the fight as it gets into the later rounds. This will lead to the expected victory for Mayweather.

Coasts to a Decision

Mayweather is going to be winning the fight going into Round 11. Knowing that, Mayweather is going to coast to a victory.

Although Cotto is not going to go down without a fight, Mayweather will do enough to avoid any serious damage. 

Mayweather will win by decision.

Fight of the Century

The fight that every one has been waiting to see will be Mayweather's next fight. 

There have been times where it looked as if the fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao was actually going to be made official, only to be stopped by a complication. 

After Mayweather's 90-day jail sentence and Pacquiao's fight against Timothy Bradley, all measures will be exhausted to make the fight that people believe could save the sport a reality. Those efforts will be successful and the fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao will be officially made.
