Extreme Rules Review

With the 2012 Extreme Rules pay-per-view out of the way, it’s time to mentally regroup and examine just how good the show really was. For a show that we expected little from, this was fantastic.

Question on Everybody's Mind: How was this so good?

From Kane and Randy Orton to open the show to John Cena and Lesnar closing it out, this was one of the best executed PPVs in a long time. Add in the Chicago crowd and the excitement level was through the roof.

Most fans expected CM Punk and Chris Jericho to put on a great show, but the Cena-Lesnar bout stole the show. Say what you want about Brock Lesnar, but he is great in the ring at what he does.

With an awkward post-Extreme Rules promo leading us to believe that John Cena would be missing time with an injury, fans were stunned to find out that the star would be back on Raw the next night…and star a new feud!

It’s so hard to tell anymore. With the rise of what has been deemed the Reality Era in wrestling, the WWE has tried to get over on fans whenever they can. The company has reportedly used dirt sheets as a way to get back at the fans and work them as well.

Brock Lesnar made every fan who saw Extreme Rules stand in shock as he beat the hell out of John Cena. That kind of extreme beat down is the kind of thing that wrestling has missed for a few years.

Just like there was a wrestling revolution in the early '80s and again in the late '90s, we may be on the cusp of yet another return to glory. For that to fully come to fruition, a TNA must step up their game and we need a third federation. That’s why we all need to back Ring of Honor; they’re this generation’s cult hit, just like ECW was in the '90s.
