Justin Blackmon: Oklahoma State Star WR Overrated on Draft Day
Justin Blackmon is being treated like he's the next A.J. Green or Julio Jones, but the fact of the matter is that he simply isn't.
I am not debating Blackmon will be a solid player in the NFL, but No. 5 overall is very high, especially for a wide receiver. And the fact that the Jacksonville Jaguars moved up from No. 7 overall to pick him is mind-boggling.
Blackmon has gotten to where he is now because of an electric season at Oklahoma State. Last season, he was unquestionably the best receiver in college. He had staggering numbers: 121 catches, 1,522 yards and 18 touchdowns. This came after a season in which he had 111 catches, 1,782 yards and 20 touchdowns.

But it's not always about numbers or what someone did in college. Blackmon has the strength, leaping ability and explosiveness after the catch to be a solid player in the NFL. But there are more questions about him than there should be for a top-10 pick.
For one, Blackmon isn't particularly fast. And even one of his highlights, his strength, isn't overly impressive. He benched just 14 reps at the combine. He's not even as fast or as strong as South Carolina receiver Alshon Jeffery, who has plummeted down draft boards. Beyond that, he also doesn't have great height, at 6'1", while Notre Dame's Michael Floyd, for example, has two inches on him.
In terms of where the Jaguars picked Blackmon, he is overrated, and the fact that the Cleveland Browns were actually considering him ahead of Trent Richardson is as hard to fathom as Ryan Tannehill soaring up draft boards.
Blackmon will be a solid player in the NFL, but he won't be the game-changer you expect from a No. 5 overall pick.
