2012 NFL Mock Draft: Latest Projections for Second Round Teams

Wes ODonnellJun 6, 2018

Wow, did you expect that many fireworks in round one of the 2012 NFL draft?

No? Join the club.

Six trades went down in the first seven picks (including the Redskins-Rams trade) and every mock draft in the world was shaken up to no end.

But, here we are, several hours later, projecting the second round.

If round one was any indication we know we're in for a treat in rounds two and three, so let's take a look at the latest projections.

33. St. Louis Rams: Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford

Jonny Martin fell down the board and the Rams, who opted to fall down the board in the first round, won't let him go any further.

He can step in and help this team and could one day be an elite starter.

34. Indianapolis Colts: Coby Fleener, TE, Stanford

This pick doesn't get much easier after Andrew Luck went No. 1.

35. Baltimore Ravens (via Min): Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, Alabama

The Ravens let Minnesota come into the first round and land Harrison Smith so, in turn, they stay with the best value on the board and land Alabama's Courtney Upshaw.

He's a great fit in this defense and a steal at this point in the draft.

36. Denver Broncos (via TB): Reuben Randle, WR, LSU

Courtesy of the Bucs coming back for Doug Martin, the Broncos land another weapon that can help Peyton Manning immediately.

37. Cleveland Browns: Cordy Glenn, OL, Georgia

The Browns could've jumped on Glenn in the first round at No. 22 and nobody would have batted an eyelid. Instead, they sit and land him at No. 37.

38. Jacksonville Jaguars: Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama

Jenkins has some of the biggest character concerns in the entire class, but he's also a potentially elite cornerback. Jacksonville cannot pass on that.

39. St. Louis Rams (via Wash): Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech

The speed and upside of Hill is too much to pass up. After landing offensive and defensive tackles, the Rams need to land a weapon on offense.

40. Carolina Panthers: Vinny Curry, DE, Marshall

Ron Rivera is no dummy, and he knows pass-rushers are at a premium in today's NFL. Curry fits their rotation immediately.

41. Buffalo Bills: Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina

Call this a reach if you want, but if the Bills get the best out of Jeffery they'll have a dynamic receiving duo for the foreseeable future.

42. Miami Dolphins: Andre Branch, DE, Clemson

Tannehill was a no-brainer at No. 8, but Branch is even more of a no-brainer at No. 42.

43. Seattle Seahawks: Mychal Kendricks, LB, California

The Seahawks made the worst pick of the first round by reaching for Bruce Irvin, but they can help ease the pain by landing the best inside linebacker still on the board.

44. Kansas City ChiefsAmini Silatolu, OG, Midwestern State

The Chiefs opted to land a massive defensive tackle in round one and can now turn their attention to a sleeper offensive guard in round two. Silatolu can start from day one.

45. St. Louis Rams (via Dal): Lavonte David, OLB, Nebraska

The Rams are cleaning up in the second round, and Lavonte David is the cherry on top of the sundae.

46. Philadelphia Eagles (via Arz): Kendall Reyes, DT, UConn

The Eagles already added a defensive tackle, but they can take a page out of their rivals in New York's book and land value when they see it.

47. New York Jets: Lamar Miller, RB, Miami

Yes, the Jets have a huge need at running back. An offensive lineman makes more sense here, but the value for them, in comparison to running back, isn't very high.

Miller, on the other hand, could be a potential starter.

48. New England Patriots (via Oak): Devon Still, DT, Penn State

The Patriots need major help in the front seven and Devon Still is a dominant run-stuffer.

49. San Diego Chargers: Bobby Massie, OT, Ole Miss

After landing a pass-rusher, the offensive tackle position looms large on the Chargers' list and Bobby Massie is a rising prospect worth taking a chance on.

50. Chicago Bears: Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin

The Bears, on the other hand, aren't taking a risk at all, and actually get better at multiple positions by landing Konz here. They can move things around on the line and put everyone where they fit best while working towards the future.

51. Philadelphia Eagles: Bobby Wagner, OLB, Utah State

The Eagles cannot possibly go into another season with the linebacking they're currently sporting. Wagner has starter potential and fits their system.

52. Tennessee Titans: Ronnell Lewis, OLB, Oklahoma

The Titans aren't actually in dire need of anything here, but Lewis is a great fit at linebacker for them.

53. Cincinnati Bengals: Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State

The Bengals landed their guard and cornerback in the first round, but left wide receiver on the back burner. Quick isn't the speedster that they may have wanted, but he's a big target who can help take away double coverage from A.J. Green if he adapts to life in the NFL.

54. Detroit Lions: Josh Robinson, CB, UCF

Detroit's need in the secondary is huge, and Robinson is one of those prospects worth taking a shot on.

55. Atlanta Falcons: Mitchell Schwartz, OT, California

The first pick of the draft for the Falcons has to be a tackle or they're doomed. Running the ball may not be an option for them next season, so protecting Matt Ryan has to be a priority.

56. Pittsburgh Steelers: LaMIchael James, RB, Oregon

Yes, surprise, I know, but the Steelers are hardly a team to subscribe to normal picks. James would make a great 1-2 punch with Rashard Mendenhall (assuming he stays healthy) and they can get back to doing what they do best.

57. Denver Broncos: Brandon Thompson, DT, Clemson

After passing on the opportunity to bolster their D-line, the Broncos need to land someone who can stuff the run now and for later.

58. Houston Texans: Mohamed Sanu, WR, Rutgers

The Texans might've gotten one of the steals in the draft here with Sanu. He may not have timed speed, but he plays fast and can do everything. Playing opposite Andre Johnson certainly won't hurt his development as a receiver.

59. New Orleans Saints - No Pick (Bounty Hunting)

59. Green Bay Packers: Trumaine Johnson, CB, Montana

Charles Woodson is phenomenal but he cannot play the position forever, and Johnson has the skills to develop into a starter in this league.

60. Baltimore Ravens: Derek Wolfe, DL, Cincinnati

The Ravens got great value in the defensive front-seven with Courtney Upshaw early in the second, and they would be foolish to pass on Wolfe this far down the board.

61. San Francisco 49ers: Dwayne Allen, TE, Clemson

Although Fleener is off the board, the Niners' desire to run two-tight end sets has not disappeared. Allen can step in and make a difference opposite Vernon Davis immediately.

62. New England Patriots: Mike Adams, OT, Ohio State

Although he has a few off-field issues, Adams is phenomenal value here and the Patriots will have a hard time leaving him on the board this late.

63. New York Giants: Zebrie Sanders, OL, Florida State

The Giants don't know what to expect from Will Beatty, and Sanders at least gives them a potential starter at either left or right tackle for the future.
