Tyrus Thomas Reportedly Involved in Altercation with Bobcats Coach Paul Silas
Charlotte Bobcats head coach Paul Silas and forward Tyrus Thomas got into a heated argument after the team's loss to the Boston Celtics last Sunday, which led to the 68-year-old coach pushing the 25-year-old reserve, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
"Charlotte Bobcats coach Paul Silas shoved 6-foot-10 forward Tyrus Thomas after a postgame screaming match Sunday night, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Several players intervened immediately and separated the coach and player, and no punches were thrown, sources said.
"
The report states both men were fined for their actions by the team. Silas became upset with Thomas for talking with some of the Celtics players throughout the game in the midst of Charlotte's extended losing streak, which has now reached 17 games.
Frustration levels throughout the organization are certainly running high after having to endure one of the worst seasons in NBA history. In fact, the Bobcats still have a chance to finish with the lowest winning percentage ever.
It's not hard to see how emotions can get out of hand when things go as poorly as they have for the Bobcats. Another source in the article said losing to the Celtics played a role in Silas' postgame outburst since that's one of his former teams.
The coach's contract also runs out at season's end, so he's probably feeling a little extra pressure to show at least some type of improvement. He signed a one-year deal last season, but it's hard to imagine the team bringing him back based purely on lackluster results.
Now that this incident has gone public, it won't help his cause. The Bobcats are going to land a valuable pick in the draft and could decide to clean house to begin a rebuilding process in the offseason. Only time will tell.
Mark it up as another misstep in a season filled with them for the Bobcats franchise.
