2012 NFL Draft 1st-Round Odds: New York Jets

Sigmund BloomJun 7, 2018

The Jets were in the AFC championship game for consecutive seasons before falling off in a big way last year. With the franchise in turmoil, it is more important than ever for the team to hit on their first-round pick this year. Here are the candidates that could help pull the Jet out of their tailspin.

25% - Courtney Upshaw, DE/OLB, Alabama - If the Seahawks and Cowboys pass on Upshaw, look for the Jets to snatch him up. He's too good a football player and too good of a fit for these teams picking in the mid-first to fall much farther than this.

20% - Melvin Ingram, DE/OLB, South Carolina - The Jets reportedly love Ingram, and they were out in force at his pro day. In reality, he should be No. 1 on this list, but the Jets may have to trade up to get him, as Ingram is ranked higher than Upshaw by most draftniks.

15% - Mark Barron, S, Alabama - Barron has been linked to the Cowboys at No. 14, but so has about half of the first round. He would be a terrific fit for the Jets defense and probably start from day one.

10% - Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame - No one disputes that the Jets need help at wide receiver, but Floyd would have to get past the Bills and Cardinals to make it down to the Jets pick. The signing of LaRon Landry is a one-year gamble and shouldn't affect the odds of Barron landing in New York, because he could easily start next to Landry.

10% - Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina - The Jets are bringing Coples in for a visit and they may prefer him to Ingram or Upshaw if he falls to No. 16. The possibility of Coples being there seems to go up with every negative report. With the way the Jets turned Aaron Maybin's career around, they could be very tempted by Coples.

10% - Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa - Reiff is another tough player to peg the odds on because of the likelihood that he goes before No. 16 to a team like Jacksonville, Buffalo, or Arizona—teams that could also be looking at Michael Floyd. The Jets first-round destiny is tied in part to what the Bills and Cardinals do.

5% - Cordy Glenn, OL, Georgia - Would the Jets take an offensive lineman who might project best as guard in attempt to fill their hole at right tackle? Glenn is certainly a strong enough prospect to garner some consideration here, even if it is as a long shot.

2.5% - Michael Brockers, DT, LSU - The Jets did have Brockers in for a visit, and like Coples, his stock is down. The need on the interior defensive line isn't as big as it is at pass rusher, wide receiver, safety or right tackle.

2.5% - Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State/Trade Down - It would take Floyd going ahead of Blackmon or no wide receivers going in the top 15, but it's not impossible that Blackmon is there for the Jets at 16. The better question is, would they take him? Perhaps the best answer is that they would trade down with a team that had Blackmon in the top five of their big board.
