Los Angeles Clippers Video: Watch Blake Griffin Miss Gimme Breakaway Dunk
Blake Griffin has embarrassed his fair share of opponents since breaking into the league. So when he clunked a dunk in Thursday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, all you could think about was "karma"...and that Alanis Morissette song.
Griffin blew a wide-open dunk on a fast break on Thursday, showing that he isn't immortal in the air after all. Players Griffin has dunked on in the past must have been weeping when they heard about this, relieved they had something to use against the Los Angeles Clippers' explosive big man.
The crowd's reaction is priceless. You would have thought the Timberwolves lost the game on a buzzer-beater with that reaction. Instead, it was simply a player missing a dunk. Hey, it happens all the time in the NBA, right?
But this is no ordinary player. This is Blake Griffin, who has become part of "Lob City" with Chris Paul leading the charge. When he goes up for a dunk, he is not supposed to miss, let alone with no one in his way. This is the same player who has embarrassed such post defenders as Kendrick Perkins. Most defenders have learned that going up to block Griffin is asking to be put on a poster.
It also isn't a surprise that Griffin looked confused after retaining possession on the play. He was probably as shocked as we were. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he had a midlife crisis after this, wondering who he is and mumbling existential phrases.
Headed into Thursday's game, Griffin was averaging 20.7 points and 10.9 rebounds while shooting 54 percent from the field. He's that one player who teams hate to face because they know there isn't anyone on their defense who matches Griffin in athleticism and explosiveness.
But yes, Griffin has fallen, folks. And the world's end is nearing.
