Rajon Rondo: Lack of Olympic Dreams Tied to Extreme Point Guard Depth
Rajon Rondo is one of the best point guards in the NBA. He has been a key piece in the Boston Celtics' recent surge. Therefore, his absence from the 2012 Olympic roster is somewhat surprising.
It turns out that Rondo and the extreme point guard depth in the American squad have turned the star point guard off the Olympic team.
In an interview with Fox Sports Florida, Rondo made his feelings about the Olympics known to the world.

I decided to leave. I was homesick.

In addition to that, the Fox Sports article also points out that there were plenty of other point guards at the disposal of Team USA.
"There were six point guards selected in Derrick Rose, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Russell Westbrook, Eric Gordon and Chauncey Billups, although Billups has been ruled out of contention due to suffering a season-ending torn Achilles earlier this year.

It is a little alarming that a superstar NBA player doesn't want to be part of the Olympic team. Most of us would consider it an honor to represent our country in a sporting event as big as the Olympics.
That's not to say that Rondo is wrong—just very interesting. Not everyone is tied to the Olympics. He is obligated to the Boston Celtics, and everything else is secondary. He does his job, does it well and will continue to be a great player.
It's not like Team USA is going to be hurting for performances at the point guard position, after all. You can look at the six names on the list above to see that.
