2012 NFL Draft: 5 Defensive Tackles Who Could Be in the Jaguars' Plans

David LevinJun 4, 2018

An injury changes everything.

Friday afternoon, the Jacksonville Jaguars defensive line looked to be in a great position. Defensive tackle Terrance Knighton was working on getting in game weight shape. Tyson Alualu was recovering from knee surgery so he could run and move at 100 percent. Defensive end Aaron Kampman was recovering from knee issues and was on schedule to be ready for training camp.

My how a weekend changes things.

Now, with Terrance Knighton's eye injury sustained in a Jacksonville area night club early Sunday morning, it is not known the severity of the injury and how long it may keep the former Temple defensive back out of the Jaguars' lineup.

And because of that, it may in fact change the Jaguars' draft strategy. Along with the need for a pass-rusher to team with defensive end Jeremy Mincey, the team may now need to look at a tackle to add to the rotation.

Here is a look at some tackles who could be available at the seventh selection and in the second or third rounds.

Dontari Poe, Memphis

1 of 5

He is the best defensive tackle in the draft and probably the only one who is capable of being drafted in the top half of the first round.

He was a real find at the combine, and his stock has remained high. He was once thought of as a middle-first round pick. Now, he is a bona fide top 10 talent.

Poe may be a great find for the Jaguars, but they also have other pressing issues worthy of the seventh overall pick.

Michael Brockers, LSU

2 of 5

He was once a possible top-five pick, but now he has settled into the middle of the round.

Brockers is a good player who will get better as he gets older. A team like Dallas or Denver or Seattle may be interested in his services.

The Jaguars may look at him, but he may not fit their defensive scheme.

Devon Still, Penn State

3 of 5

Still was once rated as the seventh best prospect in the draft. Now, he is a borderline first-round pick.

He could be available in the second round if the Jaguars want him.

Still caused havoc at Penn State and in the Big Ten against some of the best offensive linemen in the country. His style is well suited for a 4-3 defense and may be a nice pickup for Jacksonville.

Brandon Thompson, Clemson

4 of 5

I think this might be the most logical choice of all.

Thompson has great talent and was considered a good first-round talent, but got lost in the announcements of juniors making the leap to the pros.

Thompson played against ACC talent, and he learned how to stop the run as well as get to the quarterback.

Alameda Ta'amu, Washington

5 of 5

A nice find in the middle of the draft, Ta'amu is huge and can move offensive linemen around.

He has a low center of gravity, which makes him a nice talent to have when stopping the run.

He could be drafted as high as the second round, and as low as the fourth round.

A possible real steal.
