LA Clippers Must Target Stan Van Gundy to Replace Vinny Del Negro
The Orlando Magic could very well fire Stan Van Gundy. Well, the LA Clippers could very well need that great coach to fill in for Vinny Del Negro.
Dwight Howard is trying harder to get SVG fired than he was in the loss to the NY Knicks on Thursday night. Well, that's if you believe what is coming from Van Gundy's mouth.
Per ESPN, prior to a lackluster effort against the Knicks, the Magic head coach stated that his superstar wanted him out, and now all we can do is wait.
How does the saying go? One man's inept head coach is another's chance at an NBA title. Hmm, that can't be it.
While I may be horrible at sayings, I am amazing at spotting potential, and that is what I see with the loud-barking Van Gundy in Lob City.
Orlando Magic
SVG will be fired, or he should.
That is all I can say about a bad situation that just got hit with a tornado of worse. There is no shoveling out from under the fact that the head coach feels undermined and the superstar feels like he was thrown under the bus.
I am just surprised it hasn't happened already. Oh, right. There aren't many strong replacements on the market. We will return to this.
LA Clippers
Welcome to the almost there stylings of the 2012 Los Angeles Clippers.
The Clip Show was 6-9 to start March before going on a six-game winning streak to save the season, and quite possibly the job of Vinny Del Negro, a head coach dealing with a tremendous amount of pressure at the moment.
The question of whether Del Negro is the right man for the job has to be asked because there have been flashes of horrendous play by a team flooded with All-Star talent.
It wasn't too long ago that ESPN's Chris Broussard reported on the head coach losing his team:
"Players have complained that Del Negro's offensive and defensive schemes are too basic and predictable and they say he plays favorites when handing out criticism, according to the sources.
"
That sounds an awful lot like a promising coach who is in over his head. The Clippers need a championship-caliber coach, because this squad is indeed of championship caliber.
This team is one losing streak from questioning their head coach again.
SVG to Hollywood
It seems far-fetched at this point in the season, but that goes to show you how volatile things are on both coasts right now.
You can say what you want about Van Gundy—that he is abrasive and far too overzealous for pro players—but I say he wins.
Consider Dwight Howard forced a melodrama any Kardashian would be proud of on the team and the fact that the last two seasons featured postseason berths is remarkable.
In four seasons, Van Gundy has lead this team to four playoff appearances, a conference final and an NBA final.
Yeah, guys hate him, but they still win.
Consider him the new Pat Riley, who pushes his guys until they can't stand him, but win just the same. The Clippers need a head coach who will not kowtow to superstars, but decide to reprimand them when needed.
The Clippers need a much stronger voice on the bench and there is no voice stronger than that of Stan Van Gundy.
