Manchester City's Sergio Aguero Sidelined with 'Stupid' Injury

Christopher HallMar 30, 2012

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini says that a "stupid injury" is keeping striker Sergio Aguero out of the Citizens lineup, according to The Guardian newspaper.

The manager said, "It is a stupid injury." Pressed on the exact nature of what happened to the Argentinian, Mancini said he preferred not to elaborate on the specific circumstances surrounding the knock.

But he did say, "It was not [Aguero's] fault, but he can't play with this injury. For one day, 10 days or two weeks. I don't know. But he couldn't play against Stoke and can't play tomorrow. I hope he can recover for Arsenal next weekend."

Aguero wasn't even among the substitutes for City's 1-1 draw with Stoke City last weekend. Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli turned in a tepid performance in his absence.

The draw, paired with Manchester United's win against Fulham on Monday, saw Mancini's side drop another two points off the pace at the top of the Premier League table.

They currently sit in second place, three points behind Sir Alex Ferguson's Red Devils.

Both Manchester teams play over the next few days. City host Sunderland on Saturday, while United take a short trip to visit Steve Kean's relegation-threatened Blackburn Rovers on Monday.
