WWE Rumors: Brock Lesnar, CM Punk, SmackDown Spoilers and Wednesday's WWE News

Adam WellsJun 2, 2018

Today is the day where WWE goes into full-scale WrestleMania media promotion. All of the top stars will be at the press conference in Miami to hype the show, with The Rock and John Cena headlining the festivities.

It truly is amazing to see all of the wrestling forces converge into one area for an entire week. It's another part of why this show has become so big. It's not just WWE, but all the promotions head down there to capitalize on having thousands upon thousands of wrestling fans in one spot.

Since you can't be down in Miami today, we want to bring something special to you: backstage news, notes and information from WWE.

BROCK LESNAR REPORTEDLY READY TO RUMBLE AGAIN

One of the big names fans have speculated about being at WrestleMania 29 is Brock Lesnar. It sounds like he is ready to give them what they want, possibly against Steve Austin or The Undertaker, according to a report from WrestlingObserver.com.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Who should he wrestle?

Our Take: While Undertaker would make sense given that angle they tried to run in 2010, Austin would be a better choice. He has one more match in him, and doing it with Lesnar would make it feel a lot more special than another Undertaker vs. Lesnar match.

Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 Dream Matches

If you recall, back in 2002 when Austin left WWE, it was because of creative differences. One of the main sticking points was he didn't want to just lose to Lesnar in an impromptu match on RAW. It was the right call, but there is something that WWE could do with that to make it work as a wrestling angle.

CM PUNK AND STEVE AUSTIN TEASING WRESTLEMANIA MATCH

While I just got done talking about how an Austin vs. Lesnar match at WrestleMania 29 would be good, it sounds like CM Punk might want to get in the way of that happening. At least that is what one could take away from a Twitter exchange between the two.

"

@CMPunk Just worry about 28. If the stars all line up I always have a big can of Whoop Ass ready to take to NYC. #rogerthat

— Steve Austin (@steveaustinBSR) March 27, 2012"

Question on Everybody's Mind: Is this going to be the big match WWE sets up on RAW?

Our Take: WWE has supposedly been talking about setting up the WrestleMania 29 main event one year in advance, like this year's show, and this would definitely be a special attraction that started the buzz for that event.

Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 Personality Clashes

Punk and Austin would have a natural chemistry that could make the match one of the most anticipated in WWE history. The return of the rattlesnake would be good enough to move a lot of tickets, but when you think of what they could do with a lot of microphone time, the possibilities are endless.

BRODUS CLAY READY TO DANCE AT WRESTLEMANIA

While WWE seems to have a love-hate relationship with Brodus Clay, he may get his chance to shine on the WrestleMania stage as a way to kill some time in between matches people actually paid to see.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Do we really need another filler match?

Our Take: No. Whether you like Clay or not, putting him on the main card at WrestleMania is pointless. If he wrestles a dark match, that would be OK. There is too much to do during the pay-per-view to be loading it up with more fluff than there already is.

Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Funkasaurus Rex Dances

If WWE had actually taken time to just put Clay in a match—like the 12-man tag—then they wouldn't have to worry about getting him in a pointless squash match on the show. Let's not waste anymore time with something that can just be saved for RAW. Please.

****WARNING****

THE FOLLOWING SECTION CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM THIS WEEK'S SMACKDOWN TAPINGS. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW, SKIP AHEAD.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

SMACKDOWN GOES SAFE FOR WRESTLEMANIA

Even though there were a few matches taped for this week's SmackDown, there was really nothing of note from the show. The biggest news, if you want to call it that, was Big Show cutting a promo about how he will have his WrestleMania moment. Also, there is a good match between Chris Jericho and Kofi Kingston.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Is there any reason to watch SmackDown this week?

Our Take: While we never discourage watching wrestling, it will essentially be two hours of the same video packages you saw on Monday. If ever there was an episode that you wanted to skip, this would be it.

Hype Meter: 2 out of 5 Ways To Get By

This whole week has been about just getting by, which is not necessarily a good thing. There was no Undertaker, Triple H or Shawn Michaels on RAW to put the final nail in the angle, to drive home why this match is important. Rock and Cena said a lot, but never told us why we should care about their match. It was really strange.
