Jaguars Free Agency: Jacksonville Still Needs a Pass Rusher Before the Draft
Wide receiver, check. Backup quarterback, check. Depth in the secondary, check.
Now, all that is missing is a pass-rusher and the Jaguars have quietly filled needs for the 2012 season. And hopefully, they are not done yet.
Names like John Abraham, Cory Redding and Mario Williams have all been signed or re-signed. So, what is left for the taking? And is Jacksonville going to make a play for one of the remaining defensive ends in this free agency period or stake its claim in the upcoming draft, which is about a month away? Also, will the Jaguars still try to find one more set of hands to help aid the receiving corps?
Right now, the team needs to concentrate on finding at least one more piece of the puzzle. Here are some pass-rushers who are still available for the taking.
Tyler Brayton
1 of 5He was a starter in Oakland and a former first-round draft pick. His last stop was Indianapolis.
Yes, he has nine years in the league, but with Mel Tucker's defensive scheme that rotates players in and out, it might be a good gamble to have a situational pass-rusher like Brayton on the team.
He still has good pass-rushing ability and can help stuff the run.
Mark Anderson
2 of 5The New England defensive end makes the most sense in this situation.
I thought this team would go after John Abraham, but that did not happen and he re-signed with Atlanta.
Anderson is still young and explosive off the line. He and Jeremy Mincey would be a nice combination to have.
Luis Castillo
3 of 5Formerly of San Diego, the former first-round pick is 290 pounds and can play on the end or inside as a tackle, which makes him a nice fit for this defense.
I like Castillo's game and would think he would be a nice pickup this late in the process.
He also adds another big body to the middle of the defensive line.
Jovan Haye
4 of 5Haye was part of the Tampa Bay rotation and could be part of the Jaguars.
He is fast and elusive at 6'2" and 277. He could also play stand-up linebacker in key situations.
Haye has seven years in the league and could be a steal if the Jaguars make a play for him.
Derek Landri
5 of 5He was a Jaguar before.
Landri gives you good effort and will work hard on every play. At 290 pounds, he too can play inside and out. He is a former Eagles player who may come at a decent price on the open market.
This is one where the Jaguars should really look at taking a chance on him.
