Miami Dolphins Draft Impact: Team Trades Brandon Marshall for 2 3rd-Round Picks
After trading two second-round picks to the Denver Broncos for Brandon Marshall two years ago, the Dolphins decided to ship him out to the Chicago Bears today for a 2012 third-round pick and a 2013 third-rounder.
Not only does this potentially change the Dolphins' focus in the first round, but it gives them extra ammo to address needs on both sides of the ball in the third round. What will the ripple effects be next month in Radio City Music Hall?
Oklahoma State WR Justin Blackmon and Notre Dame WR Michael Floyd are in play at No. 8.
With no true No. 1 receiver, and arguably no clear starting quality wide receiver on the roster (not to mention the free agent wide-receiver pool getting smaller as I type), the Dolphins will be forced to look to the draft to fill this hole for whomever their new starting QB is next season.
Texas A&M QB Ryan Tannehill doesn't seem to be a consideration as the Dolphins have opened talks with free agent QB Matt Flynn as a fallback plan in the event that they lose the Peyton Manning derby.
The Dolphins have to hope that two of the Cleveland Browns, St. Louis Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars pass on one of two big receivers at picks four, six, and seven.
The Rams could be a potential partner in a trade to leapfrog the Jaguars, and the extra third-round pick could be just the piece they need to lock up the first wide receiver off the board.
