Lakers Trade Rumors: LA Must Reconsider Trading for Dwight Howard

Jesse ReedJun 4, 2018

The Orlando Magic have reportedly reached out to the Los Angeles Lakers once again with the intentions of getting something for Dwight Howard before the trade deadline passes them by.

The Lakers need to listen up.

NBA sources tell Local 6 Sports Director David Pingalore that if Magic center Dwight Howard does not sign a contract extension, he will likely be traded to either the New Jersey Nets or the Los Angeles Lakers before the trade deadline.

"

Apparently, the Lakers and Magic have already exchanged players they'd include if the deal goes down.

According to the report, the Lakers are offering Andrew Bynum, Derek Fisher and Metta World Peace (formerly Ron Artest) for Howard, Hedo Turkoglu and Chris Duhon.

Honestly, can you tell me what the holdup might be?

In my mind, this is an extremely lopsided deal in favor of the Lakers.

Bynum can't seem to stay healthy, and though he does show flashes of brilliance when he's on the court, he hasn't been able to put it all together long enough to really establish himself in the NBA.

Howard is an instant upgrade over Bynum, and with him the Lakers would become the favorites to win the West.

Derek Fisher is still ballin', but at 37 years old he's just about finished.

On the contrary, Chris Duhon still has a lot of good basketball left in his legs.

Metta World Peace is also getting to be quite the greybeard, and picking up Turkoglu as his replacement would do wonders for the flow of the Lakers offense (Turkoglu is a fantastic passer from the small forward position).

Howard and Kobe Bryant on the same team sounds like a winner to me.

If anyone can tell me why this would be a bad deal for the Lakers, please let me know.

I can't see anything but good things coming out of it, and the Lakers would be wise to reconsider the idea of bringing Howard to LA.
