Dwight Howard Rumors: Orlando Magic Deny Superman Has Superpower in Front Office

Bradlee RossJun 5, 2018

Dwight Howard, the Superman of the NBA, supposedly has superpowers inside the front office of the Orlando Magic. However, his team is denying that that is the case.

The CEO of the Orlando Magic Alex Martins has denied an earlier report that stated that Dwight Howard would have control over the jobs of Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy and GM Otis Smith. Martins stated that the team’s ownership is the only one in control over who runs the team.

Whether or not Mr. Martins is to be believed is a completely different issue. The entire buzz out of Orlando is that the Magic are desperate to keep Howard by any means necessary.

Under those circumstances, the idea that the Magic would let Howard have a say over who stays in management and who goes, doesn’t appear to be that far-fetched.

Another curious bit of information about this story is that, according to those same reports, Martins the CEO has taken the lead role in convincing Howard to stay and not GM Otis Smith. That fact does not seem to bode well for Smith on the surface.

Those reports also say that the Magic are using their time until Wednesday to try and bring in pieces to compliment Howard in Orlando, in hope that such moves might make him more inclined to stay.

Supposedly, if the Magic cannot find those pieces by the time Wednesday rolls around, they will begin looking at their options as far as trading the three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

It appears that the biggest trade piece that the Magic are trying to acquire to appease Howard is Golden State combo guard Monta Ellis. Ellis is averaging 21.9 points and six assists per game this season.

The Magic are playing with fire in this Dwight Howard situation. They have until 3 p.m. EST time on Thursday to make a move. If he’s still with the team at that time, then they’ll risk losing him in free agency and getting nothing in return.
