Fantasy Basketball Boards & Blocks: Bismack Biyombo
On the season, Charlotte rookie Bismack Biyombo is averaging 5.2 rebounds in 18.5 minutes per game. Even more impressive is the 1.8 blocks per game that he is averaging.
Lately, though, Biyombo has been even more productive. That’s because over the last five games he is averaging 31.2 minutes per game.
He has brought along slowly, averaging 10.3 minutes (2.7 rbg, 1.0 bpg) in December, 13.1 mpg (3.3 rpg, 1.5 bpg) in January and 24.0 mpg (6.9 rpg, 2.2 bpg) in February. As you would expect, the more he plays, the more productive he gets.
Considering the Bobcats won just four games from the start of the year through March 4 for a 4-31 record, and have gone 2-3 in the past five games, don’t expect him to see a reduction in minutes any time soon.
During the five-game stretch, he is averaging 8.2 points (including three double-digit scoring efforts), 10.0 rebounds, 0.6 assists, 2.8 blocks and 0.8 steals. He is shooting 48.5 percent from the field on the year, but has shot just 45.7 percent during his recent stretch.
Unfortunately, you have to deal with a ridiculously bad free-throw percentage (47.4 during stretch, 43.2 percent on the year) and more turnovers than acceptable (1.6, 1.1).
Free throw shooting and low turnovers (along with scoring, assists and steals) aren’t why you are rostering Biyombo, though.
You’re there for the boards and blocks, and as long as he is playing 30-plus minutes, he will give you an abundance.
Biyombo is owned in 45.8 percent of ESPN and 31.0 percent of Yahoo! leagues. If you have a specific need for rebounds and/or blocks, Bismack can help.
