Memphis Grizzlies: Why the Grizzlies Are the Most Dangerous Team in the NBA
Lately, I've been hearing all about the Heat or the Thunder and how talented they are. This is true. They both have a lot of skill that can outplay a lot of teams.
But you know what people don't focus on? How dangerous a team is.
What is the difference you ask? Well, let me break it down for you.
To be a dangerous team means that, while you may be decent or good, you don't have the most talented team. However, if all things are clicking, your team can and will beat any team they face.
Some of these teams either have a one hit wonder type of game, or sustain their power mode through extended periods of time. Starting to sound familiar?
Well here is the even better news: Not only are the Memphis Grizzlies a talented bunch, they are the most dangerous team in the league.
Look at the stats. Number 1 in Steals and Turnovers Forced. Top 10 in Opponents Points Per Game and Opponents Assists Per Game. Five players averaging more than a steal per game. There is a reason they call them the "Maulin and Ballin" Grizzlies. The defense is always playing lock down.
Sure they may not have the most explosive offense...regularly. As evidenced by last years playoff run, the Grizzlies can go on a tear when they need to.
In fact, they don't usually need to because the defense is always stopping opposing offenses and holding them to minimal points. After all, when you have Marc Gasol and Tony Allen stealing and blocking like crazy, you don't really need an offense.
But don't think that the Grizzlies lack an offense. Rudy Gay, Marc Gasol and Mike Conley run this offense quite efficiently. Now, we get to the biggest weapon the Grizzlies have in their arsenal.
The return of Zach Randolph.
Randolph's injury is healing up on time, so he will be joining Memphis very soon. You know teams are already planning on how to stop him.
Just looking at what Randolph did last year in the playoffs should be enough to silence the most vocal critics. A monster on defense and a workhouse on offense, Randolph is one of the best pieces of this Memphis team.
Looking to the future, Marreese Speights is finally playing like he was projected to, and the Grizzlies could have a nice trade piece in O.J. Mayo.
If you breakdown this team, you can see why they should be feared in the playoffs. They have the skill. They have the motivation. They have done it before.
What do you get when you put all these cogs together? The most dangerous team in the NBA.
