Bulls Rumors: Acquiring Pau Gasol Would Make Chicago's Offense Unstoppable
The Chicago Bulls are already one of the best teams in the NBA. They have the second-best record in the Eastern Conference heading into the All-Star break. If you want to nitpick one area they could use another player, it is scoring.
Pau Gasol is a scorer that the Bulls can plug into the small forward position and get back to the NBA Finals.
There were reports earlier this week that Derrick Rose told the Bulls that he wanted them to pursue Gasol in a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers. Rose has since come out and said that the reports were false and he would never discredit the team that currently surrounds him.
Regardless of whether Rose said it or not, the rumors are out there and it makes sense for the Bulls to do what they have to do.
Offensively, they need to get more versatile. Rose is obviously the best point guard in the NBA. Luol Deng and Carlos Boozer have stepped up their performances, and it seems dangerous to try and mess with a good thing.
But even if the Bulls would have to give up Boozer, which the report says they might do, Gasol gives them a better scoring option. Gasol brings an inside and outside presence that neither one of them do. He can create his own shots if he wants to, or he can help Rose increase his assist total by making plays without the ball before stopping and popping from 18 feet.
Adding a true scorer who can shoot and grab rebounds—not that the Bulls need that last part—would make them even more lethal than they already are.
With Richard Hamilton expected to come back soon, they have more offense in the pipeline.
While they already look like an NBA Finals team, the Bulls could put some distance between themselves and the Miami Heat before the postseason starts if they acquire Gasol.
