What They're Saying
Marc Berman of the New York Post gathered some opinions on LeBron James statement that he would guard Jeremy Lin, at least for certain stretches.
"“It’s maximum respect if it happens,’’ coach Mike D’Antoni said of James defending Lin.
“They’re going to defend the heck out of him,’’ D’Antoni said. “They’ve been doing that to every team in the NBA, winning by 15 points every game. They’re playing really well. They’re just going to double-team him, every place and be quick as heck. And I’m curious to see how Jeremy adjusts to it. I’ve seen everybody tries a little different things, but he’s doing well.”
“In terms of matchups, LeBron is a great player and great defender,’’ Lin said. “We just have to be aggressive and not change anything on my end. This is a good opportunity to build momentum into the All-Star break. It’s a big game.
"
Most Important Player to Watch: Jeremy Lin
Linsanity is going to be playing in his toughest game yet and may be the most scrutinized now that he’s truly considered a top point guard.
As coach D’Antoni mentioned, Lin most likely will see LeBron guarding him at points—proving that he’s made the leap from curious spectacle to elite star.
If Lin can get his teammates involved while this pressure defense is taking places and flashes ability to handle the rock under duress, it will further prove his mettle.
Key Matchup: Heat Stars vs. Tyson Chandler in the Paint
When Miami lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals last season, Chandler dominated the paint because he didn’t have to worry about protecting it from anyone his size.
This still holds true this season as the Heat failed to acquire a legitimate center.
Now the Knicks can immediately switch Chandler onto LeBron, Dwyane Wade or Chris Bosh if they come near the paint and double them.
Miami needs to figure out a way to beat this strategy before it comes back to haunt them again.
Prediction
New York 104 - Miami 102
