NBA Trade Rumors: Predicting Where Top Big Men Will End Up After Deadline
There are some big names apparently on the trade block this season in the NBA and countless rumors to go along with them.
Landing a top big man can be the difference between not making the playoffs and a deep playoff run for some teams.
Here's a look at three big men on the block who should garner significant interest around the league. Of course, I'll tell you where I think they'll land, too.
3. Carlos Boozer, PF, Chicago Bulls
Carlos Boozer, who was criticized in last season's playoffs, found himself in trade rumors for the first time on Sunday when Marca.com reported he was a potential piece to acquire Pau Gasol.
Boozer, who's averaging 15.6 points and 8.4 rebounds while shooting 53 percent from the floor, certainly looks to be expendable, but the Bulls aren't going to give him away without finding someone to replace him.
I don't see the Lakers making this trade and I see Boozer staying in Chicago.
2. Pau Gasol, PF, Los Angeles Lakers
Gasol has been linked to such teams as the Minnesota Timberwolves and Chicago Bulls.
But despite seeing his name in numerous trade rumors, I don't think Gasol will be dealt by the trade deadline.
Gasol to the Timberwolves just doesn't make sense. The Timberwolves have Kevin Love starting at power forward. Plus, they aren't going to go on a title run if they land Gasol, anyway. They are a good, emerging, young team, but they are still emerging. The team would have to grow for another year to have a serious shot at a deep run in the playoffs with Gasol.
Derrick Rose has reportedly given the Bulls the go-ahead to deal for Gasol, potentially using Carlos Boozer as a trade piece, but I don't see why the Lakers would make this trade. Gasol is still averaging a double-double and is a much better player than Boozer.
1. Dwight Howard, C, Orlando Magic
Howard has reportedly narrowed his wish list down to the New Jersey Nets, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks.
The Mavericks don't have the trade pieces to acquire Howard and I find it hard to believe Jim Buss would part with Andrew Bynum.
That leaves the Nets, who would likely give away anyone but Deron Williams for the chance to land Howard. It also gives them a shot at retaining Williams come free agency after the season.
Plus, with the Nets moving to Brooklyn soon, I'm sure Howard wouldn't mind playing on the big stage.
I see Howard ultimately landing with the Nets.
