Ranking Blake Griffin Amongst the NBA's All-Time Greatest Dunkers
Blake Griffin is well on his way to becoming one of the best dunkers in NBA history. Last year's Slam Dunk Champion has already thrown down some of the most memorable dunks in league history. His dunk on Oklahoma City's Kendrick Perkins will be viewed for the next 50 years.
Right now, where does Griffin stack up against the best dunkers of all time? In a few years, he will definitely be in the top 10, but as of right now, he is looking up at these 10 guys.
Nate Robinson
1 of 10A three-time Slam Dunk Champion at 5'8", Robinson deserves to be considered one of the best of all-time.
Robinson's dunk over Spud Webb was iconic, but his defining moment was his dunk in the 2009 contest over Dwight Howard.
Vince Carter
3 of 10Perhaps the most entertaining dunker of the last decade, Carter's resume can be summed up in one name: Frederick Weis, and the 2000 Slam Dunk Contest. Oh yeah, plus these.
Darryl Dawkins
4 of 10Nicknamed Chocolate Thunder, Dawkins looked to destroy the rim every time that he dunked. Thus, he became known for breaking backboards. Dawkins is one of the true pioneers of power dunking.
Shaquille O'Neal
5 of 10Speaking of power dunking and destorying backboards, nobody could bring the hammer like Shaq did in his prime. Opposing centers knew that they were in for a long day.
Julius Erving
6 of 10The godfather of the Slam Dunk, Dr. J's dunk from the free-throw line to win the contest in 1976 is one of the iconic moments in sports. He is also known for his dunks over Bill Walton and Michael Cooper.
Dominique Wilkins
7 of 10Before there was Vince Carter and LeBron, there was the Human Highlight Reel. A two-time Slam Dunk Champion, Wilkins was one of the pioneers of the next level of NBA athlete, more explosive than Dr. J.
Shawn Kemp
8 of 10It's astonishing that Kemp never won the dunk contest. The Reign Man was Blake Griffin and Dwight Howard of the 1990s. Kemp was one of the first big men who could really jump like someone slightly smaller. Kemp was right there with Wilkins, Clyde Drexler and Michael Jordan as the most entertaining players of the early 90s.
Kobe Bryant
9 of 10Kobe has come a long way since this. That day, the seeds were planted that Kobe was going to become one of the greatest dunkers ever. Even as he is losing some of his explosiveness, he is still able to turn back the clock to produce moments like this and this. Kobe is one of the top five greatest ever.
