NBA Rumors: Steve Nash Should Seek Trade to Playoff Contender

Scott SemmlerJun 4, 2018

Steve Nash did not suggest he wanted a trade out of Phoenix to a playoff contender, but he didn't deny it either.

Nash, the self-proclaimed "Canadian Jeremy Lin," was interviewed by ESPN's J.A. Adande where he stated that he was not one to demand a trade, even though there is plenty of opportunity to do so, and rumors to back it up.

“I’m not oblivious to [the chance of] playing on a contender,” Nash said to Adande. “But at the same time, especially in the position I’m in right now, I feel a sense of loyalty to my team. To go and ask for a trade, it’s not like I’m going to say, ‘Trade me to...’ "

Nash accepted the fact that playing for a contender would be great, considering the Suns' 12-19 record, as well as the fact that Nash is 38 years old with limited time left in the NBA.  However, he also admitted that being loyal to a team is an important trait to him.

I am sure he saw how it all went down for LeBron James during "The Decision," which we were reminded of last night when James went back to Cleveland and was met with relentless boo's.

Nash does not want that.  He does not want that to be his legacy as a player in this league, or fall into the same category as the other superstar players who have demanded trades to big cities with more publicity and chance of winning.

But he did not deny that he wanted a trade either.

At most, Nash hinted that a trade would be nice, and a shot at the NBA Finals is what he is looking for.

The NBA trade deadline is March 15, and with things falling apart in Phoenix, Nash is said to be one of those players that have the possibility of being traded.

Nash did give the usual "team before player" response, which is why he has that clean reputation of being that nice guy and not falling into the hype.  He had a chance with Adande to come out and at least hint that he wanted a trade, but did not.  Good for him, I guess.

But deep down, Nash wants a ring and one last chance to play in the NBA playoffs.  He at least acknowledged that he was thinking about it.  And acknowledging it may just be enough to spark some rumors that he wants out of Phoenix for a shot in the playoffs.
