2012 NFL Draft: 5 Trades That Make Sense for the Jacksonville Jaguars
Being in the seventh spot in the upcoming draft is not the best place for the Jacksonville Jaguars to be when it comes to landing a top receiver.
Lady Luck was not kind to Jacksonville.
But for teams that need a pass-rusher, maybe a defensive back or a shot at one of the better tackles in this draft, Jacksonville's slot looks pretty inviting. In fact, don't be surprised if Jacksonville receives many calls before and on the day of the draft.
These are a few trades that make sense for the Jaguars to listen to with a chance of acquiring more draft choices and maybe a player or two along the way.
Trading the 7th Pick to Cincinnati for the 17th and 21st Selections
1 of 5This works if certain things happen.
The Bengals defense was pretty good last season, but every team can always use more weapons.
Also, the Bengals offense grew over the seasons, but it is evident it is still a work in progress.
Could the Bengals seek Morris Claiborne, the best defensive back in the draft, or could they want more offensive firepower and try to grab Alabama running back Trent Richardson?
With the 17th and 21st selections, the Jaguars could grab Baylor receiver Kendall Wright and maybe someone like Alabama defensive end/linebacker Courtney Upshaw or Crimson Tide defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick.
The Jets Sending the 16th Selection to Jacksonville for the 7th Pick
2 of 5The Jets could use a pass-rusher and figure that Quinton Coples, the top rated pass-rusher in this draft from North Carolina, should be available.
While there were problems on offense and inconsistent play at quarterback, the defense was not as sharp as it has been in years past under Rex Ryan.
The 16th selection can do many things for the Jaguars (and maybe an extra second-round selection).
In the middle of the round, someone like Michael Floyd from Notre Dame makes sense at receiver. Also, the could take a shot at someone like Nick Perry a DE from Southern Cal.
The Jaguars Sending the 7th Pick and Next Season's First Pick to St. Louis
3 of 5This would allow the team to select Justin Blackmon, the clear choice as best receiver in the draft.
The Jaguars have been exposed so many times with not having great receivers this past season. Blackmon would help solve that problem and would allow the team to use other picks on defensive players.
This also means free agency is used to solely concentrate on offense.
The seventh selection could still bring the Rams someone like a Riley Reiff or Jonathan Martin for the offensive line.
New England Sending the 27th and 31st Pick to the Jags for the 7th Pick
4 of 5This is strictly to gain more picks if free agency is good to the Jaguars.
With the 27th, 31st and 39th selection, the Jaguars can upgrade their team quickly.
Alshon Jeffery, receiver from South Carolina, could be available as could be Mohamed Sanu of Rutgers to help the receiving corps.
At the 39th selection the team could get a defensive end (Vinny Curry) to help the pass rush.
Dallas Sends the 14th Selection and a Second-Round Pick for the 7th Selection
5 of 5If you cannot trade with anyone else, then always looks to the Cowboys to find a trading partner.
If the Cowboys send the 14th pick to Jacksonville and a second-round pick, for the seventh overall selection, Dallas could have a choice at Quinton Coples, a defensive end out of North Carolina, or maybe even Morris Claiborne, the best defensive back in the draft from LSU.
The Jaguars could still tab a solid receiver in the middle of the round or get an edge rusher like Courtney Upshaw from Alabama.
