NBA Trade Rumors: Pau Gasol to Timberwolves Buzz Is Bogus
There is talk that the Minnesota Timberwolves have been pursuing Pau Gasol.
It's just another chapter in "L.A.'s Bogus Journey."
Chris Tomasson of Fox Sports wrote on Wednesday:
"A source said Wednesday that Minnesota continues to pursue a possible trade for Lakers forward Pau Gasol, dangling rookie Derrick Williams, who is from the Los Angeles area, and draft choices. The only players considered untouchable by the Timberwolves, who are seeking to add a veteran by the trade deadline, are Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio. The Timberwolves believe it could be enticing for Gasol to play on the same team as fellow Spaniard Rubio.
"
In the words of Norm MacDonald, "What the H?"
In the words of John Hollinger of ESPN:
""It makes no sense to me on any level. Not the right player for Minny to target, and not the right move for a veteran L.A. team. Sounds to me like somebody floating a trial balloon rather than anything serious."
"
On Minnesota's side of things, this is hard to even fathom. What are you going to do? Use Gasol or Love as a center? If you have Gasol coming off the bench, I find it hard to believe he's going to be happy.
Plus, the Timberwolves are an up-and-coming young team. Do they really want to add an aging player? Gasol wouldn't even make them a title contender at this point in their development.
As for the Lakers, yes, it would be nice to add Derrick Williams and some draft picks to get younger, but they aren't going to start rebuilding in Kobe Bryant's last years in the league. Plus, they lose their rebounding advantage if they deal Gasol, and that would cripple them.
This is one of those rumors you ignore...or you hope, for the sake of the NBA, that neither of these teams is actually seriously considering it.
This is like the Golden State Warriors trading away one of their big men for a guard.
It defies all logic.
