LeBron James Continues Tired Facade by Playing Up Possible Cavaliers Return
LeBron James left Cleveland in a famed mess that he is still trying to cleanup. Recent comments about Dan Gilbert and the Cavaliers franchise lends hope that King James could one day hold court in his hometown again. We know better.
Jason Lloyd is a Cavaliers beat writer for the Akron Beacon Journal, and he caught up with LeBron James recently. That is when some interesting comments took place.
It starts with this tweet:
James maintains that he holds no ill will to Gilbert for the famed letter the Cavaliers owner penned after James left. He continues in the next two tweets:
The next tweet is where most fans in Cleveland will get giddy:
Lloyd states that James sounded absolutely contrite, although he makes note that he doesn't spend all that much time around the star Heat player.
A small item that makes a great bit of difference is that LeBron James and the Heat are set to take on the Cavaliers in Cleveland on Friday. It's a no-brainer to make nice with the people that hate you right before you play in front of them.
Cleveland will no doubt boo the Heat superstar that left for greener pastures in Miami, but there is no way that he returns anytime soon.
James has an unending desire to shape his image and become a global icon, and he doesn't do that by retreating to the place he spurned.
There may be a time when a return is feasible. I firmly believe that James does love the people of Cleveland and has fond memories, but a return is the last thing on his mind right now.
He needs to win a title, and it has to be in the place that he bet big would bring it to him. Miami is his home, and Cleveland fans should dispatch any hope to the contrary.
James may be playing nice and saying the right things, but Dan Gilbert burned that bridge as much as James did.
The King was nice to spend some time massaging the Cavaliers' ego, but this story is going nowhere. The next time you hear about this will be next season when the Heat return to Cleveland. At that point, James will put up the facade and wear a fake smile.
He does what is necessary, but there is no way he returns to Cleveland full-time.
