Jeremy Lin: How Amar'e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony Will Affect Super Lintendo
To say New York Knicks fans are concerned about the return of Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire would be an understatement.
When's the last time you heard that?
Jeremy Lin, an undrafted point guard out of Harvard, has put the Knicks on his back in just his second season in the NBA. He's not going to shoot over 50 percent for the rest of the season, as he has in his last five games, but his strength lies in making everyone around him better.
But will Anthony and Stoudemire disrupt the Knicks' chemistry? Will they start demanding the ball at all costs?
I don't think so.
It's worth noting that what Lin and the Knicks have right now is above Anthony and Stoudemire. It's about a team coming together. As big of stars as Anthony and Stoudemire are, they also know the Knicks have a good thing going, and they're not going to jeopardize this for a few more shots per game. If they do, the blame will be placed squarely on their shoulders. No basketball player wants that.
You've seen how Lin has been able to work center Tyson Chandler into the mix, giving him easy dunks as he penetrates. Stoudemire is a better, more dynamic offensive player than Chandler. How is he not going to flourish with this kind of offensive spacing?
Then you come to Anthony, who I think will actually be better. Anthony has an array of ways he can hurt you as he can drive to the basket or knock it down from midrange. All he has to do is play within the Knicks' game plan and he will most certainly get his shots.
Let's not forget this is a team coached by Mike D'Antoni. Offense is his thing. He's taken plenty of hits about his team defense before, but his offenses have always been dynamic, including the Phoenix Suns with Stoudemire and Steve Nash.
The only way I see this not working is if Anthony and Stoudemire become selfish and put themselves before the team. But, let's be honest, they want to win — that's why they came to New York. If Lin continues to make everyone around him better, shots will be falling all over the place with Anthony and Stoudemire on board. The two superstars aren't going to say, "Oh, I wish he passed to me that time," when teammates are dropping shots in wide open spaces and the Knicks are winning.
Anthony and Stoudemire have already shown their support for Lin. You can tell they're just as amazed as we are. Even looking at Anthony on the bench during this stretch, it's obvious he's excited to get back on the floor with this team.
The bottom line is, Anthony and Stoudemire came to the Knicks to win. They know they have their best chance of doing that now.
