NBA Trade Rumors: Best All-Around Players on the Market

Kelly ScalettaFeb 14, 2012

With the NBA trade deadline now just barely more than a month away, the trade rumors are really starting to swirl, and some interesting names are on the market. Here are the best all-around players we can find on the trading block.

That's not to say all these players will be moved, but any of them could be moved. Of course, when you're talking about a better player, you are also talking about a higher price.

These guys aren't going to come cheap.

Maurice Williams

1 of 6

If you can muster your way through the T.J. Simers hatchet job on Mo Williams, you'll get to this morsel,

"

I could be traded tomorrow. I could be traded next week or before March 15, [the trade deadline], or before next season. They aren't going to trade Blake Griffin.

"

It's not nearly so selfish or narcissistic as Simers blows out of proportion. In his interview, which is more commentary than actual conversation, it's pretty apparent that he's trying to portray what Williams is saying in a manner in which Williams doesn't agree.

Setting aside Simers' nonsense, and just looking at Williams words, you have to wonder, why would he be worried about getting traded?

Only one reason makes sense: He's on the block. Even with Billups gone for the year, the Clippers are deep at the point guard position. Don't be surprised if the Clippers swap him somewhere.

Pau Gasol

Pau Gasol has been springing up in trade rumors all season long, and he was actually already traded once, before he wasn't.

With the Lakers still needing to resolve their situation at point guard and Pau Gasol being the best trade chip they have in order to obtain one, don't be surprised if the Lakers move him before the trade deadline.

The latest rumors have him going to Boston in exchange for Rajon Rondo. While these rumors have been denied, rumors being denied doesn't mean they aren't true.

Generally, when a player keeps popping up in reference to different players, it's because he's being talked about.

Steve Nash

3 of 6

Steve Nash might be too old. He was also too white and too Canadian, but that hasn't stopped him from being one of the greatest point guards in the history of the game, and it's certainly not slowing him down now.

At 37, he's still dishing double-digit dimes a game, the oldest player in NBA history to ever do that, breaking the record of the 36-year-old Nash of last year.

I guess there's little wonder why he's still a coveted player.

The latest rumors don't suggest where he's going, but they do indicate that he might be going, which is more than we've had in the past.

"

Yet while Nash seems to be the one making the ultimate decision, even he acknowledged that he's unsure what will happen in the immediate future. "I have no idea what the club will eventually do if a bunch of offers are thrown in their face," Nash said, "but I feel like I'm not nervous about [the trade deadline] and I'm not thinking about -- what's the word? -- I'm not anticipating anything to happen.

Kyle Lowry

4 of 6

He might not have made the All-Star team officially, but don't confuse that with him not being an All-Star-caliber player, or one with an alluring future. Players averaging more than Lowry in all three major categories of points, rebound and assists includes no one.

He's rapidly becoming one of the best all-around point guards in the NBA and there are some that believe the Lakers are still looking at him for Pau Gasol. While it's not likely, it's not impossible either.

According to Yahoo!: "The Houston Rockets still have a longing for Gasol, but the Lakers would want a player the Rockets are most reluctant to part with: point guard Kyle Lowry."

Rajon Rondo

5 of 6

The other side of the Pau Gasol-for-Rajon Rondo deal is, of course, Rajon Rondo for Pau Gasol. No player in the NBA has more than Rondo's five triple-doubles over the last two seasons.

A Rondo-Kobe Bryant backcourt would be one of the best in the history of the league. It would certainly make the trade interesting.

Dwight Howard

6 of 6

Dwight Howard is the best player on the trading block if he is indeed on the trading block still. It's hard to know whether that's true still. Howard seems change his mind more than he changes his undies, which is to say at least daily.

Yesterday, he said, "Just be patient." Whatever that means.

If you don't like that, don't worry. Tomorrow, if not today, there will something new, I assure you.
