Gilbert Arenas and Pathetic Former Stars Who Don't Deserve Another Shot
Take a look at a guy like a Jeremy Lin, and you'll see a guy that just needed one opportunity. A guy that had to wait his time and take the hard road just to get that opportunity.
Then you look on the other side of the ledger, and there are a handful of guys that are attempting to make comebacks. These are guys that have been handed several opportunities throughout their NBA careers, but they never learn.
Whether they've been troublemakers or bad teammates or something in between, here's a look at a few guys that have had their opportunities and don't deserve another shot.
Gilbert Arenas
1 of 5Arenas worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers last week, but he still remains unsigned.
Here's a guy with knee problems and, looking at his past couple of seasons, is just too much of a risk to sign.
He's never been much of a leader or a winner, and it's risky to think he can fit in as a role player.
Going off of last year's performance, no player in the NBA that averaged more than 15 minutes of playing time per game had a worse field-goal percentage then the .344 Arenas had in 2010.
Allen Iverson
2 of 5Iverson's burned too many bridges and has been given more opportunities at success than most people get.
There's a reason he hasn't been in the NBA since 2010.
Iverson's agent continues to contact teams about a possible return, but there have been no takers, even though a report surfaced about there being possible interest from the Lakers.
The timing is interesting for Iverson, considering a Georgia judge recently commandeered his bank account thanks to him refusing to pay off his jeweler.
At the end of the day, though, Iverson's been given plenty of chances throughout his career and probably shouldn't get another.
Rasheed Wallace
3 of 5Wallace always had an NBA body, but he always came off as a selfish player.
His rash of technicals throughout his career showed that there may be no "I" in team, but there's definitely a me.
While there was no knocking his talent and what he could bring to a team, he also needed to be motivated and in shape—something he wasn't during his final season in Boston.
He's made it known he was attempting a comeback, but his casual and sometimes lazy approach to the game hasn't had teams lining up for him.
Wallace has had his chances. He's too risky to give another shot.
Rafer Alston
4 of 5Alston is another veteran that is looking to make a comeback.
He was a good story coming from street ball to the NBA, but he has been out of the league since 2010. Many teams needing a guard need more of a pure point guard right now, and that's never really been Alston's game.
He also was often a problem off the court, getting arrested three times between 2007-08.
Jerome James
5 of 5James was signed to a ridiculous five-year, $30 million contract by Isiah Thomas in 2005.
He was so thrilled with the money that he decided to quit working out, and he reported to camp overweight and severely out of shape.
The highlight of his Knicks career came in 2005-2006, when he averaged 3.0 PPG. In his final two years on the Knicks, he scored a grand total of 10 points
He's now in the D-League looking to make a comeback, but if he didn't have enough respect for the game to take it seriously to begin with, he doesn't deserve another shot now.
