2012 NFL Draft Projections: Robert Griffin III Wrecks Draft-Board Havoc
Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III may be the two best quarterbacks on the board, but their status on the draft board couldn't be anymore different.
Luck is as good as an Indianapolis Colt. In fact, he very well may be the starter without playing one game or taking one snap in practice. That is how volatile the situation in Indy has become.
Luck is as certain as you can be as the No. 1 overall selection for the NFL Draft. Robert Griffin III, however, is a far more interesting prospect to nail down.
There is no shortage of teams that could land the Baylor superstar and Heisman Trophy winner. The past season created quite the demand for a potential star under center. When supply is at a minimum, this happens.
First, here is how the top six could settle.
1. Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck
2. St. Louis Rams: Matt Kalil
3. Minnesota Vikings: Riley Reiff
4. Cleveland Browns: Trent Richardson
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Morris Claiborne
6. Washington Redskins: Robert Griffin III
We can pretty much forget the Colts and Andrew Luck exist for the next few months. After that, the draft could settle in for a boring day of one team getting pretty much what they need before moving on.
That is not nearly what is expected though.
The Rams, with the No. 2 selection, hold the key to how things will shake out for the entire first day. Most pundits feel that a trade is in order. St. Louis could deal this spot to any number of teams, address a specific need and still get youth in return.
The Redskins are the team most likely to come calling on or before draft day. Washington is in dire need of a promising young stud to take snaps and Griffin fits the bill.
The fly in their ointment remains the Cleveland Browns who are flirting with a QB switch of their own. Colt McCoy's arm strength and ability to lead a title team has been questioned. That makes them a fit for a RG3 coup.
That possibility has a paranoid Redskins team thinking "trade." The Rams could most definitely bite and still draft help for their offensive line or a receiver like Justin Blackmon that could be available.
That's not nearly all. The Miami Dolphins and Seattle Seahawks also like the cut of Griffin's jib.
Those two teams would need to heavily sweeten a deal for the Rams to drop that far, but anything is possible on what should be a wild and crazy draft day.
