Russell Westbrook Video: Where Does Thunder Star's Slam Rank Among Year's Best?

Gabe ZaldivarFeb 10, 2012

The lockout may have stolen some games from our NBA plate, but it certainly didn't steal any dunks. This has been a banner year for slams and stuffs, and we break it all down.

It's time to get in where you fit in. Russell Westbrook gave us a high-flying spectacle on Thursday night, and that means we can savor a dunk over the weekend.

His slam doesn't occur in a vacuum, though.

We have had a couple ridiculous dunks to tickle out fancies this season. Westbrook figures to be among them, but does he win it all? Here is a reverse order breakdown of the few dunks that got us talking this season.

4. Jeremy Lin One-Handed "How Do You Do?"

This brings up the proverbial rear simply for the fact that it wasn't all that remarkable. Not one Wizards player was the least bit interested in getting posterized by Asian Tim Tebow, so they pretty much took a seat and marveled at the dunk.

The reason it lands on this list of memorable dunks is because it was a memorable dunk. Duh.

Lin is the story of the season so far, and anything he does will get put on a t-shirt or discussed ad nausem on ESPN. This slam by Kobe Bryant—forgettable. By Jeremy Lin? Epic.

3. Russell Westbrook "Space Jam"

The Oklahoma City Thunder guard gave a giant M.I.A. middle finger to gravity and space-walked in the middle of a game.

Dude went Air Jordan on the Sacramento Kings, but it still falls short of the dunks that made us stop everything we were doing for a few days, just to watch highlights. This dunk would be getting far more love if we didn't have the next two slams to savor.

There is also the fact that some folks will be talking about his turnovers in this game over this ridiculous stuff. Westbrook has silly hang time.

2. LeBron James "John Lucas Highlight Reel"

Ladies and gentleman, take a gander at the only highlight from John Lucas we will remember when his time is done in the Association.

It's just too bad for Mr. Lucas that it features King James hopping over him like he were a puddle on the street.

This dunk was the epitome of re-donk-ulous. However, there was another that came shortly after that had every last person with an Internet feed glued in for the next few days.

1. Blake Griffin "Perkins'd"

Thankfully for Timofey Mozgov, Blake Griffin likes to spread the love around. Forget being Mozgov'd, Kendrick Perkins proved that even an epic dunk can be outdone.

Sure, he got but the tips of his fingers on the rim. He was still able to get the nation up out of their seats in unison as everyone and their moms waved a towel like it was an "And 1" game.

This dunk was so powerful that it actually hurt Perkins' feelings. When was the last time you made a man feel lesser than he was? Griffin does that nightly—gangsta.
