Kobe Bryant Comments on Blake Griffin's Dunk on Kendrick Perkins
Were you wondering what Kobe Bryant's reaction was to Blake Griffin's incredible dunk over Kendrick Perkins on Monday night? Well, you're in luck.
""Oh my God!" Kobe said following the game after walking away from the media scrum at his locker. "OH MY GOD!!" he repeated with a huge grin. "That was really something, wasn't it? That was one of the best plays I've seen him make — and he's made a lot of them.
"
"Did you see how he went up even higher once he (made contact) with Perkins? That was something else."
When informed that some felt his first-quarter explosion was a response to the play, Bryant was incredulous.
"Why would I need to respond to Blake's dunk? Crazy."
Oh, and here's Griffin's dunk again, which I think I might watch as soon as I wake up every morning for inspiration.
That "first-quarter explosion" was Bryant scoring 18 points against the Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday night. But here's the thing: Why in the hell would Kobe need to respond to a dunk by Blake Griffin? Because they both play in Los Angeles? Because Kobe wants to prove he's still the king of Los Angeles?
Oh please.
Why should Kobe care about a dunk? After five titles and one of the finest careers in NBA history, you think Kobe is watching the Clippers and thinking, "Oh man, I've got to out-stage them every chance I have so people don't forget I own the Staples Center. People might forget about me after that dunk."
No, of course not. He watched that dunk and, like the rest of us, thought, "Damn, that was awesome!"
And that's all he should have thought.
