NBA Hot Seat: 5 Coaches Who Should Already Be on Their Way Out

Brandon Taylor Jun 7, 2018

This NBA season is starting to take form. Even though there is still the All Star Break and also the trade deadline, most teams already know their season is going to unfold. With that, it's time to take a look at the popular NBA Coaches Hot Seat. Mike D'Antoni heads the list of coaches who should probably be their way out. Who else made the list? Please read on.

Alvin Gentry

1 of 5

The Suns are heading backwards and could be stuck where they are not good enough to make the playoffs, but at the same time probably won't get a high lottery pick. Phoenix currently sits at 7-13, having lost seven of their past 10 games. Steve Nash is leaving this summer, and the Suns are going to tear everything up. Gentry will probably be a casualty.

Paul Silas

2 of 5

The Charlotte Bobcats were going to be bad, but I don't even think Michael Jordan expected them to be this bad. They currently sit at 3-19, having lost nine of their last 10. They have some pieces in place with Kemba Walker, Gerald Henderson and Bismack Biyombo, but Silas won't be around to see the turnaround.

Avery Johnson

3 of 5

The New Jersey Nets are 7-15 so far, but really the only way Johnson is gone is if Brook Lopez continues to miss games, which may stop a Dwight Howard trade. Also, Deron Williams could be frustrated with the constant losing and decide long term that he doesn't want to stay in New Jersey. As long as the Nets play hard, which they are doing, Johnson will probably stick around.

Stan Van Gundy

4 of 5

This is probably a stretch, but when Dwight Howard leaves Orlando, it's possible management could decide to go in another direction. That scenario will likely only play out if the Magic let Howard leave for nothing. If Orlando just lets Howard go without getting anything back in return, Van Gundy could be in trouble.

Orlando is currently 12-9, and while they may win a playoff series, they aren't going deep in the postseason. Van Gundy's team has taken a step backward, and losing Howard could be rock bottom.

Mike D'Antoni

5 of 5

D'Antoni is in trouble. The New York Knicks are 8-13, in a slump, and may not recover. The judgement is still out on the Carmelo Anthony trade. Amar'e Stoudemire is having a poor season, and guys like Toney Douglas and Landry Fields haven't taken that next step. The Knicks are probably going to need a deep playoff run to save D'Antoni, and it's probably not going to happen.
