Denver Nuggets and 6 NBA Teams That Desperately Need a Go-to Guy
There are a handful of teams in the NBA right now that are off to very good starts, but are missing one key element.
A go-to guy.
As good as they are playing right now, the lack of a real go-to guy could expose these clubs come playoff time.
The Dallas Mavericks showed last season that you don't need three superstars to win a championship.
You just need to play as a team and have that one guy to lean on down the stretch.
Dallas had a Dirk Nowitzki in last year's championship run. These following teams don't have a Nowitzki to lean on and desperately need one.
Denver Nuggets
1 of 6The Nuggets have been nothing short of great after they traded Carmelo Anthony to the New York Knicks.
They have a good young core that includes a pair of future All-Stars in Danilo Gallinari and Ty Lawson, but they still need a go-to guy.
The Nuggets have six guys currently averaging double-figures in points, but who takes the big shot on a nightly basis?
Gallinari can grow into that role, but is he ready to carry this Denver team on a postseason run?
Philadelphia 76ers
2 of 6The Sixers are in the same boat.
A solid 15-6 start to the season, seven guys currently averaging double-figures, but are they legitimate postseason threats?
Lou Williams is the Sixers top scorer at 15.3 points per game, but they need a player with more scoring punch that can take over a playoff series.
Indiana Pacers
3 of 6The Pacers have a chance to be a threat in the Eastern conference for years to come, but can they do so without their own go-to guy?
Danny Granger is a solid player and the Pacers leading scorer at 17.5 points per game, but is he a guy they can lean on in the clutch?
Utah Jazz
4 of 6Utah is off to a surprising start to the season and could really make a run if they had a go-to guy. Preferably one on the perimeter.
The Jazz have a quality frontcourt already and could really use a top-notch guard.
Houston Rockets
5 of 6Kyle Lowry is quickly becoming one of the best point guards in the NBA and backcourt mate Kevin Martin is having a great season averaging over 20 points per night, but the Rockets need a legitimate go-to guy.
Opposite of Utah, Houston could really use a legit frontcourt player to go to in the clutch.
I just don't know how confident I would be with the ball in Martin's hands down the stretch of playoff games.
Lowry could use a better option to form a legit one-two punch.
Memphis Grizzlies
6 of 6I've always been a big Rudy Gay fan and while he has the talent to be a go-to guy in the NBA, if Memphis had a top go-to guy, they would be extremely tough to deal with.
Zach Randolph coming back eventually helps, but who gets the ball for the Grizzlies with the game on the line?
Memphis isn't totally desperate for a top guy, but they would be taken much more seriously if they had one.
