Roger Federer: Former Champion Will Win Another Slam Title Before Career Is Over

Patrick ClarkeJun 6, 2018

Sixteen-time Grand Slam men's singles champion Roger Federer has fallen off significantly since his days of dominance, but that won't stop Fed-Ex from delivering on another Grand Slam title before his career is done.

Federer was impressive at Australian Open 2012, but he has some work to do if he is going to consistently challenge top-ranked tennis stars Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Federer lost to Nadal in the semifinal round of the Aussie Open this January, albeit in four thrilling rounds.

"I thought Rafa played well from start to finish. It was a tough match physically as well. I'm disappointed, but it's only the beginning of the season. I'm feeling alright, so it's OK." - Roger Federer after Aussie Open semifinal loss, via ESPN.com

At age 30, tennis experts and fans of the sport have questioned how much longer Federer can hold up against the world's best. The question begs to be asked considering that 30-plus-year-old players and tennis do not go well together, but Roger Federer is not your average 30-year-old tennis player.

Federer reached the Final at the 2011 French Open and is one of the greatest competitors at Wimbledon and the US Open, meaning he will be beyond a legitimate contender at the remaining 2012 Grand Slam tournaments.

Fed-Ex has won a combined 11 Finals at Wimbledon and the US Open in 25 tries. He won five straight at Wimbledon from 2003-07, and five straight at the US Open from 2004-08. Federer has not forgotten how to dominate at those events.

"

"Please win the point, that's all, I was very, very nervous at that moment. Losing four set points in a row is tough, especially when you play the toughest in history." - Rafael Nadal during Aussie Open tiebreaker, via ESPN.com

The Swiss Maestro went 20-4 in Grand Slams in 2011, he's not exactly a shell of the old Roger Federer just yet. With three major tournaments still left on the slate for this season, and two of them being Wimbledon and the US Open, Federer will reclaim tennis' highest honor at least one more time before he calls it quits.

With 16 individual Grand Slam titles already to his name and never having been knocked out before the quarterfinal round since the 2004 French Open, Federer will still be a favorite in 2012, on any surface and at any tournament.
